Sorry guys, I just thought with a $3000 price tag that there was more human factor involved and well older more seasoned builders.

Was just a tad shocked.
is this how you were expecting the video to start out :D

That is what I am getting at, PRS is known for making a good looking guitar and thought more time was taken into the build. I was not expecting what I saw.
Digital Jams":3jsby2mn said:
Nothing at all, was just surprised by the way the guitars are built for the price. I was not expecting the bodies to be hammered out at such fast pace and always thought the tops were hand carved.

Now I know they aren't built by blind virgins who are trained from birth and sacrificed when they're done. So much for mojo... :(

:D

Seriously though, I didn't spot anything that suggested the guys didn't know what they were doing. If anything, the efficiency suggests that they are quite good at their job. The PRSs I've seen so far IRL have all been great looking, playing, and sounding guitars. They probably they take this thing more seriously than most other manufacturers.

Anyway, cool post! I haven't seen this before.

You guys can continue to pay big bucks for "name brand" guitars. Truth is there isn't much difference in guitars. If it plays/looks/sounds good, it is good.

There is quite a bit of difference in different manufacturers' guitars.

No amount of wishful thinking will change that. Sorry. :D

hey it is the same with amps. thanks to the internet and a resurrgance of computer gee/ i mean white collar workers that will spend big bucks just to say/ i own it but cant really play it that well. in other words these mother fuckers are making a killing. hand over fist. for example i have good equipment for sale / fuckn cheap and nobody bites because it is not 1500/ 2500 dollar territory. then again the mentality, it cost 3500 dollars it is bound to sound better aka make me play better. i just dont get it. yes i bought trussarts but i have had one since 2002 and found a good deal. there is alot of work in those guitars that you pay for and sound like no other guitar. spend on brothers :D

no wonder china is so proficent. can you say sweatshop say it real fast 3 times. this is not an art it is production just like a car factory. hey and before you freak out it has been like this for a long time. those guitars are probably $3   50 cost tops.

Standard practice to cut up defective bodies. Did it in the Washburn Custom Shop all the time. It's done to prevent guitars from being stolen out of the trash, thrown together with off the shelf parts, and then sold as "real PRS" or "real whatever" guitars. Also, going off of my experience at Washburn, time from CNC to case was several weeks, most of that time was spent in the drying room after finishing. Once the guitars were finished, they were babied.

I think perfecting the design is the art that allows the production to move quickly. And knowing the cost of the materials, especially the wood, they arent cheap to make.

Sounds like you were expecting to see a 'custom shop' or small boutique builder operation.

Whenever I hear PRS I never think about killer playing, just posing.

Aren't they marketed to lawyer/doctor types to brag to their friends about?

Im with ya Scott. Fo the kind of money that PRS ands other brands demand, Ill go to Lee all day and pay less for a guitar that is done to my specs, and exceeds in quality all around and plays like a dream. Why more people dont do this, Ill never know... I guess its due to resale value but I dont buy guitars with that mindset and never will...

Buying blind is the biggest factor for me with any guitar. I'll do it all day long with amps, but guitars are a different deal. If I'm buying a guitar sight unseen, it had better be a screaming deal

GMW is a better company now that he's not just making Charvel clones. But if Lee were to make a set neck guitar with a flamed maple top how much is he going to charge? I don't think it's going to be that much cheaper than a PRS. And PRS guitars do hold their value pretty well unlike a lot of other smaller brands, especially in this crappy economy.

FWIW, i bought the PRS guitars i owned used. I had a Singlecut and a Custom 22 that i got each for $1700. There's plenty of dead sounding PRS out there, but some of them are just killer sounding.

Sounds like you were expecting to see a 'custom shop' or small boutique builder operation.

That is all I am saying, thought it was going to be more boutique and a tad smaller for the heavy prices.

I knew being snowed in would get me in trouble on the forums

Just about every guitar company has it's own custom shop. I think the expensive modern Eagles or other custom models are made by only a few guys down there.

Down at Kramer they were pumping out the Nightswans, but any guitar that you saw a pro play, it was made by 2 guys in the custom shop. And with Warmoth parts instead of ESP.

I'd pay $1700 for an SC no problems. That SC that just sold for $1250 in the classified section was a score.

I am sure the reserve stuff comes out of a custom shop.

You will have fun with me tomorrow as I just received a guitar for demo and it ain't no $400 plank either ;)

I'll help...

- You can't walk into a story and play a GMW (you're buying blind)
True but If youve ever played San Dimas Charvels or Early Jacksons, you have a good Idea. I currently own 3 and love everyone of them to death, matter of fact, Ive never met a GMW that I didnt like and everyone that IVe bought blind played and sounded like pure heaven.
SgtThump":b0mdc0k4 said:
- You have to wait months for a guitar to be built
Its not even an issue for me, its a custom, built to your specs instrument, Last I checked, no one stocks those..
SgtThump":b0mdc0k4 said:
-Alot of folks say Lee is an ass
Never had that kind of experience with him ever, I think that hes a great dude. Matter of fact, The people that Ive seen post bad experiences with Lee turned out to be asses(for the most part), I guess that works both ways
SgtThump":b0mdc0k4 said:
- People like PRS guitars
And that is more than cool  I dont for the most part but every blue moon, I do come across on that I love. I still dont think that they are worth the money that they ask but that doesnt matter because Im not a fan'
