Acquired a bunch of cash, now on look for a new 100 watter head.

This is not a comparison thread I know these are very different amps. Just want to know your thpughts on them.

I mainly play 90s alt rock musuc, think pumkpins, Alice In Chains, Failure, etc. So high gain is required but not Peripherye level super modern tones.

From Thomann they are all around similar price points although the 5150 is like $200 above the other two.

Id like at least two sounds, a crunchy soynd and a high gain sound. For cleans I can roll down my volume from my crunch sound and for leads I will boost the high gain sounf.

Here are my evaluations so far:

JCM800: Classic high gain platform, cannot go wrong. I can pair several dirt pedals with it which is going to be fun. No crystal cleans but thats fine. Nice British rock sounds. Also the only amp here not built overseas.. not that I care that much. Id pair it eith a Marshall 1960BV.

MT100: Fender clean + dumble inspired crunch + uberschall/recto ish high gain. By far the most versatile amp. Ive played Marl's signature PRS singlecut and absilutely loved it, so I have high hopes for his amp as well. Although Im not a massive fan of his music I like like straightforwardness when it comes to gear. Id pair it with a v30 412 cuz its a dark and middy amp.. but should work well with greembacks too.

5150 stealth: I only opt for the stealth.. because it looks the coolest. Perhaps suited a little better for modern metal tones but rock sounds should be fine. Really gained out, really compressed, sharp and vicious sound. Like a pissed off SLO100. Green channel is in cleam-crunch territory, blue is high gain saturation.. maybe a bit tame, not as raw as the OG 5150 but still awesome. The red channel I pribably wont use that much other than leads but it doesnt hurt to have it onboard. I will pair it with a greenbacl 412 cuz this amp is too screechy and gainy, have to tame it a bit.

Those who have actually played these amps, what are your thoughts?

More thoughts:

Diezel VH4: Pumkpin approval, the end.
Out of my budget new but maybe I can get one used? Nice 800 tones on channel two, cleans are good and thick, roaring channel three.

JCM900: I actually like the 900 sound, its filthy and grungy. But dont want it to be my main amp. Same goes for the JCM2000.

CAA/Suhr OD/PT100: again really good but expensive. Dont need the boost options

The reissued Peavey 6505: Really like how it sounds but no clean or crunch just like Eddie priginally intended.

Victory amps(Sherrif/Kraken): Probably the only amp I can try out locally here in Seoul. TBH dont know what to expect from these, but the fact that I can try them out is big.

I've had numerous 2203s, have an MT 100 and have tried to like the 5153s 4 different times...2 6L6 50s, and both 100w Stealths. The EVHs have this sag that seems to 'smear' the notes; in the end I've sold/returned them. Wanted to like them. The MT100 has an absolute killer Lead channel; to me it sounds like a really good boosted G Triple recto(I've had 2 F Triples and 2 Gs), it's tight so no boost needed...the lows are monstrous. Not a loose amp like the Recto. Very 3D/organic sounding and has great feel. The Clean is the best clean I've ever heard out of a high gain amp. The OD channel is super midrange heavy...too much imo but it cuts like a knife so it would work great live.
2203...well, If I could only have one of the 3 for my only amp, it'd be the 2203. I'm a Marshall guy so I always have to have one around.
For me it's 2203 first, then MT 100. I'd skip the EVHs for the reasons I mentioned. Just not for me.

One point for the 2203x. I actually like loose amps cuz im not a metal guy.

I'm definitely a Marshall tone chaser and have a 5150-III 50watt 6L6 Stealth and a Marshall Silver Jubillee Mini Head, that I recently purchased.

I love both amps but one is that raw, pedal friendly non-conpressed tone and the other is a tighter, tons of gain, compressed tone.

5150-III advantages
- Great for metal
- External bias points
- Three channels

Marshall advantages
- "The" tone if you like Marshall crunch
- Great with boosts
- Cuts in band Great

Can't really go wrong with those amps. I don't know a lot about the PRS stuff but have heard great things.

If I were you, I would seriously consider the Synergy system, the new 20 watter is great with a built in load, IRs, poweramp voicing, etc. It includes a clean channel and you can have a plethora of amps with the modules. If you don't like one, you can send it back free of charge in 30 days.
The Uberschall is just brutal, the Ecstasy module is super versatille, the Drect is one of the best Recto sounds ever, Friedmans, Engls, Fryette, Soldano, 5150 a bunch are available, you get a new real tube amp for a fraction of the cost with each module.

I hate new 800s, they are stiff and shrill. The studio 20h is great, but you need a Fryette powerstation, or run it high volume levels, absolutely not a bedroom amp.
Had the EVH 5153S 100watter, never bonded with it. The Green channel is actually a crunch channel above 2 on the gain, blue has way too much gain feels overly compressed and congested, the red is brutally over the top with gain, but it has a really great low end. You are tied to the factory pedal or you need a RJM or Glabs controller for any other control. 50watters have midi, but a shared blue/red tonestack. They can't change it, one of the contractual points with Fender was, that absolutely nothing can be changed without the approval of Ed. And he's sadly gone.
The OG 5153 is way better than the Stealth IMHO. The EL34S is really shrill on lower volumes, you need to cranck it to sing. The 50w EL34s blue channel is a dud, unless you cut off a cap. Good bye warranty.

If you are into 800 territory, get he Friedman JEL20. The Plexi channel is great, but the JEL channel is the best modded Marshall sound ever. Open, cutting, but compresses the right place, feels just right. It is a little fire breathing monster, 20w does not sound much, but it was way enough evenm for a 3000 seater with a vertical 2x12. The bass player even complained with an 8x10. :D

VH4 all day. Billy Corgan used one for years and regretted selling the one that I bought from him.

I know not on your list but I'd consider a JVM410 if you are looking into a MT100 which I've owned and also 5150III. All 3 are great amps and all do things a little differently, I'd choose the MT100 last just because the orange channel for was/is a big let down on how midrange forward it is and how the eq does nothing to help it, however the lead and clean channels sound great. The 5150III is a fire breather on the lead channel and all channels really blend well with another. The JVM does a really wide range of tones can go from a great clean all the way to high gain modded Marshall tighter more aggressive style with everything in between that is Marshall and has that el-34 mid range that cuts.

I have owned the 5150 III Stealth 100 for a few years now. Great amp. Run the gain super low on the green channel, and the amp has a very nice clean tone. The Blue channel will get you from ACDC to modern rock with no issues. The Red channel is just uber gain. Super punchy and saturated. It really will cover just about any type of music that you could want to play. I can't think of a 90s band that you couldn't cover with it.

By far vh4 . On RT there’s this anti Diezel thing . But I have all these alps and I’d do vh4 all day . I don’t have a mt 100 but it’s the only I amp I play when I go to sweetwater . I do love it . But vh4 all the way

Never gave the MT100 much thought, but this description makes me want to check one out.
