Hey guys. So right now I keep my PRS SE Tremonti in Drop B for a couple of songs so I think I'm going to sell it and grab a baritone guitar for somewhere around $500-$700, and I was wondering, for those of you that have played it, what did you guys think of the PRS SE Mike Mushok? Think it would need a pickup change? Any other suggestions for a baritone in the same price range that you think are better? Thanks for the help!

The SE's are really good guitars, great value for money. It would need a pickup change though as the stock pickups in the SEs are a bit weak, to my ears anyway, lots of people have said the same though so bare it in mind.

EMGs work great with baritones, and the Agile is great (all agiles are great for the cash) but the EMGs aren't authentic, keep that in mind when choosing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do like the SEs. Like I said I have a tremonti se but never played the mushok. I will think about the agile for sure but I really hate EMGs.

I HATE THE MUSHOK MODEL!

I own a tremonti, and the opeth sig... but this one just isn't comfortable at all

my old OLP 30scale baritone felt better.

Ibanez's low end baritone is actually pretty nice

Well, that's fair enough, but it doesn't really help the OP, what about it don't you like? Why is it not comfortable?

Yes I would like to know what I don't like. Is it just that it just wasn't comfortable to you? Thanks everyone for the input!

The Mushok is fantastic. Much better than the OLP or Ibanez. Great neck, and nice tones once you swap the pups.

The Mushok is really cool. The neck carve is more of a wide-thin IIRC. I had a customer drop a couple BKP Nailbombs in one about a year back and I couldn't believe how clear and absolutely savage it sounded at the same time. As far as a $600-$800 guitar goes, you'd be hard pressed to find a more well constructed line than the SEs.

the neck felt chunky and glue like (the finish..) couldn't find a sweet spot for the action to let the string ring out vs playability

pick ups sounded decent but i just didn't jive with the feel.

I love mine. I have the brownburst finish. The setup was near perfect from the factory, as is the fret work. I popped an EMG set in there, and it's my second favorite axe :)

Schecter makes (at least they used to) a 26.5 scale baritone that holds A or B tunings very well, and it doesn't take much getting used to since the scale is only 1 inch longer than standard.
IMO u don't need 27-30" unless you plan on tuning down to the subterranean depths of hell.

That said, I have played the Mushok and it's very nice. Just feels weird at first.

I've been using the Mike Mushok SE for my low tuned (anything below B) stuff for a while now, and I really, really dig it. It's a great playing guitar, though you really do need a pickup swap (Tremonti Treble and SD Jazz is a good combo). I'll be throwing Phase II tuners on mine soon, and I think that'll be the final upgrade.

I've played this one for a bit and really liked it. It didn't feel unnatural to me with the longer scale. I'd like to get one.

Tremonti bridge huh? I was curious if that pickup would work in this guitar or not. I'm really loving this pickup in the tremonti sig and am probably going to put it in my other singlecut. I think I've decided to keep my tremonti se. I've listed it on eBay twice and then ended the auction b4 it was bid on both times because it sounds so great. I just can't let it go. I would like to get a mushok se but does only goin down to drop B really justify getting it? That's pretty much as low as I go. I cant say I won't go lower in the future though, but at the moment just drop B.

Well, you don't NEED it to tune low. My Custom 22 is permanently in A#, and it holds fantastically. The baritone offers a different feel and a different sound, and you won't be able to tame that "big" baritone sound even with different pickups.

I good friend of mine has the MM sig. It's a nice guitar. Definitely needs new pickups though. He put in a set of Aldrichs, and it rocks!
