I am wondering if there is a pedal that mimics the talk box (besides the obvious wah pedal) that sounds decent. I guess basically are all the auto-wah pedals created equal? One of my bands is doing "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi and I don't want to set up a regular talk box/tube/mic apparatus for one song if I don't have to.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

expensive i think, but around 3:20 is one of the tones that you could use

or you could probably find something usable in the Line 6 M5 or M9 , i'd think that'd be a good choice for occasional oddball effects

filters on the m series, voice box sim, or one of the wahs with a bit of tweaking:

This is the only thing I can think of:

Go to 1:40 of this video. I think that is the sound you are looking for.

I think that will work.

Thanks, I haven't seen this yet.

You're welcome sir!
Well, I bought and gigged this pedal. It actually worked very well and was convincing. I have a video but the audio is so poor its not worth posting. Definitely the way to go for the occasional talk box effect. The "no moving parts" technology that is used to create the sweep as you move the pedal works very well and there is virtually no detectable lag (which I was initially afraid of). It is a very well built, heavy, and solid pedal.

However, some negative things about it: The onboard fuzz sounds very thin, I turned that off. I don't like how the on off light is under your foot (though it is cool how the large logo glows red when activated). The entire pedal needs to be on a base because it was sliding around the stage floor. I was constantly straightening the pedal in front of me. I have read that a base may be coming out so you will be able to perrmanently attach it to a board. The base/cradle will remain attached and you'll be able to pull the pedal off of the base.

For the price and the convenience of not having to set up a tube and another mic, it is well worth it.

What about the new "Humanizer" feature on the BOSS AW-3?

Never tried it. Pick attack with the Boss, I believe, is usually how you change the "vowel" sound on these "static" type of human voice pedals. What's cool about a real talk box and this EHX pedal is you can change the vowel sound independently of your pick attack.

with the pedal moving around, would something like a non slip mat help with this issue? or even a mini carpet ;)

you can get something similar i guess in hardware stores, but something like this:
