PT 100 or Cornford mk50II

Yo Rig Talkers I have been interested in a pt 100 and the Cornford Mk50II, I like the 2ch flexability but which one can get into the aggressive 80's tones which is where most of my time is spent. I guess I can boost them but would rather not. Anyone get to compare them side by side, or are they both just overpriced and I should keep looking. Thanks for any info. Art

I like both, too.

PT 100 has better cleans and is more versatile.

I like the feel of the MK a bit more.

They both sound great.

Hollywood we talked but I'm not sold on the racing stripes. I really want to hear one thru his bottom cab loaded with small block 25 speakers. I always had a thing for the Splawn stuff, plus Scott is a great guy.

I agree with you on scott . I tell ya the accessability of the people building and sending out amps is a big plus when you start talking spending the money that some of this gear costs.

I heard from a little voice there is a new up and coming high gainer, but I will stay silent incase it never comes to be. I would think the Cornford is more up the marshall style kinda grind Art favors , just my thoughts.

I hear ya. I would say knowing you and without having played the PT100 you would like the cornford . Ask Capulin overdrive about the cornfords. He kept one around for a fairly long time, as far as the flipping game goes .

I'm yet to try the PT100, but I have tried the Cornford, I absolutely love the Cornford, it would be my ideal amp, but alas it's a little to much for me at the moment. Is the PT100 similar to the CAE100 SE+, I tried one of those a while ago, and loved it, but I prefer the Cornford for that grinding hard rock tone.

Not very similar in my book...I vastly prefer the PT to the SE+. The PT is easily (IMO, YMMV, etc. ) the best amp Suhr does.

Yeuap.. agreed.. the PT 100 is the CAE amp to get I think. it's much more open and growl. I thought the OD 100 was dark and somewhat flat in comparison.

The PT100 has a sparkle and mids the OD doesnt have. I prefered the PT over the Cornford as well... I thought the PT was better all around. plus its made in USa and Suhr will do mods. Much cheaper to ship for warranty as well.

I never really cared for the CAA stuff until the PT. Obvioulsy I'm in the minority, but take it for what it's worth.... (not much)

The PT has a killer hot rodded Marshall vibe, whereas the SE+ (to me) was way too grainy.

I would take the Cornford any day over the SE+.

I would have a much tougher time with Cornford vs the PT.

The PT is just a great (more) versatile amp.

CAA hit a home run with the PT.

I have had both. Both will do 80s metal with no boost required. Here is my take on both.

PT100: Made in USA by a great company with great support. Way better clean channel than the Cornford, actually better than most any amp on the market. Channel 2/3 are very much like a Marshall, more so than the Cornford, the Cornford is a bit darker than most Marshalls IMHO. Overall great amp with a lot of versatility with the whomp, feedback, etc on options.

Cornford: Plays like butter and has a lead tone to die for. It is smooth but a bit dark in the mids. Decent clean channel. However I have heard the support has been lacking since the fire and they are outside the US so support for a US customer is not going to be as good as Suhr. Actually Suhr has better support than almost anybody. See I am putting Suhr pros in the Cornford section.

PT100 would be my choice if I was picking from the two, but the Cornford is a bit more forgiving and easier to play. If you like the Splawn sound you will love the PT100, has that dry grind with the ability to do more with the mids and has more gain IMHO.

I had both too, I would probably buy a Bog SHiva KT88 anniv instead ;> that being said I actually liked the clean better on the Cornford because the Suhr clean while fat and warm is over the top dynamic, meaning you need a compressor, I was not the only one who thought that everyone who played mine said the same thing. I liked the gain better on the Suhr tho, more to my taste, the cornford had a great tone but more trebly and marshally than I wanted. Both great amps by great builders, SUhr customer support is off the charts good.

Actually all Cornford US warranty work is taken care of by Savage Audio(Im 99% sure it's Savage) in the Minneapolis area through Solidbody Guitar. I think they set that up last year or the year before. I havent needed it yet knock on wood!
