I am very irritated!!!! I bought a pt100. when it arrived the headshell was broken. so I plugged it in. the amp powered up and sounded way off. it cut in and out for a minute then when it did work, it sounded flubby and muddy. the guy who sent it put it in a big box, and he shipped it standing up, not sitting like an amp usually does. there was plenty of shipping material around the sides of it, but on the top and bottom, there was only about 2 inches. plus, the amp could move around in the box a little. when I ship an amp I ship it so it is sitting like it does on top of a cab, and I make it very tight so it cant shake around. so, I called fedex and so did the sender. they came and picked up the amp to examine it. I called today, and was told it is going to Virginia to be examined!!!!!! I am in the san fran bay area. unbelievable!!!! that's at least another week if not more, all the while being ampless! I am going nuts here! at this point I hope they just pay the guy out the insurance for the amp rather than having it fixed after it has gone back and forth across the country twice. they damaged it already on the way here. but to send it all the way back across the country!!!! the guy I got it from has been helpful in dealing with fedex. I am starting to worry that the claim might get rejected. that would be a total nightmare. I paid the guy with usps money order. we have not discussed what would happen if they denied the claim. I really hope it all just goes smoothly. I don't have the cash for another amp. my days are spent in physical therapy, not work. and being ampless totally sucks. I love playing guitar, I can play for hours on end, and love every minute of it. but playing an electric guitar not plugged in is not nearly as fun, although, it is definitely better than nothing. I am just really irritated.

what would you guys do? any suggestions???

when they said they were going to examine it I pictured them taking it to some local hub somewhere, not shipping it back to Virginia!!!!!!

9/20-asked for refund, seller said he already spent the money.

I recently had an amp arrive with a damaged headshell... It was via FedEx as well.
It sounds like the case is being handled through the seller and not you. When I dealt with my case, I handled it. I never had to actually have it examined. I provided extensive photos and a bill on the cost of having it repaired.

The best advise I would give you is to NOT GIVE UP. FedEx made it EXTREMELY difficult and annoying to get resolve. But I kept on top of them. Called on a daily basis and I finally got paid out.

PM me and we can talk offline. i'm also in the Bay Area.
Happy to talk to you about my case if it helps.

if the amp was packed like that with inadequate packing materials, its god damn sure not Fedex's fault. it will take them a couple weeks and they will deny the claim, as they should. its the sellers fault for not respecting you as the buyer and for packing a $2500 amp like it was a $10 toy. the seller needs to refund you while he and Fedex duke it out. meanwhile, you will have nothing.

Unfortunately this.

I don't deal with FedEx much but I know for a fact ups would deny the claim if they discovered it was packed so poorly.

Get your money back from the seller now if you can.

I bought an amp from a member here and it was packed well, but arrived damaged (UPS).
The seller (you know who are you lovable mid-western bastard!) was solid, and returned the guitar I had traded him, while waiting on the UPS claims process.
UPS ended up denying the claim, and the guy was stuck with a damaged amp. I got stuck with shipping/insurance on the guitar. Not even sure if UPS even gave the guy his money back.
Ever since then I prefer to take major hit on amps and try to buy/sell amps locally.
The seller needs to refund you, and he's stuck with the claim; for his sake I hope it works out, but I wouldn't like to be in his shoes.
Not sure how USPS money orders work out in this scenario....anyways, best of luck getting your $$ back.

That's bs.

I guess it's worth paying out the ass for UPS to pack for you.

They say as long as there is 2" of bubble wrap and 2" of peanuts on all sides they will honor the claim.

If I ever ship another amp I'll pay them extra to do it. Just not worth it.

Sucks on both ends. I couldn't imagine selling an amp, packing it right and still getting fucked

the amp was standing straight up on its side. all around it there was probably 7 or 8 inches of padding. on the top and bottom there was no more than 2. I measure it, and the height of the box was only like 4 inches taller than the amp, and there was more padding below it than on top. when I opened the box, the top (side) of the amp was no more than an inch below the opened box, know what I mean? the amp could also move around a little bit.

Sorry to hear this mooncobra :(

I'm with Steve K on this. If it was packed poorly that is not FedEx fault. You gotta picture these boxes bouncing around with a bunch of other boxes and guys that are handling 1,000 of boxes every day.

You DID take pictures of all of this right?

PS: Peanuts are the worst packing material for a heavy amp. I get a bunch of sheets of styrofoam from Lowes and pack it that way. dawnofadream97 sent me a headshell with custom fit corner protectors. These are things I recommend. I also take pictures of me packing the amp so others can see what I did before I put it into the care of another.

i get chills when i open an amp box and it is full of packing peanuts. they offer no support in any direction or stability. a 60lb amp moving around and doing backflips in a box will not arrive alive. i have even told sellers specifically....no packing peanuts. if you need money i will give you extra money to go down to home fucking depot and buy some proper styrofoam packing and put at least 3-4" on all sides (which would be 6 sides). i could rant all day on piss poor packers.

I just shipped an amp out and I get nervous all the time. I double boxed and included Styrofoam around the whole head on the interior box. Funny thing is I just got an amp with these same boxes and nothing was packed around the amp but the interior box. No damage when it arrived to me cross country UPS. So I actually added way more material. 1.5" Styrofoam I got a big ass sheet from home depot for $5 and used the whole thing.

Guess what...I'm still nervous. Why? Cuz u never know who or what drops, flips, throws, chucks, or rolls your amp when it's outta your sight?

I guess I am nervous cuz of FedEx. They are usually solid, but ya never know. As far as shipping an amp how it normally sits....seems fine, but they don't know up from down, unless you Mark it, and sometimes I think that's a bullseye. Lol but yeah, kinda weird on its side so it's like a tower.

PS...I paid $103 to ship a head to Indiana from cali....with insurance and direct Sig, it better get there in one piece. Shipping has got outt la control. How does anyone ship a 4x12 without giving half to shipping.....crazy.

I think you should try to get your money back from the seller and tell the seller to deal with the shipping claim. You bought an undamaged amp and he didn't deliver it to you, so demand a refund or open a dispute with eBay/PayPal/whatever based on receiving an item substantially not as described. If the seller didn't pack it well, it's his problem that it got damaged. If he did pack it right, he should get the insurance money from FedEx. Either way, you should get your money back from him.

I shipped a VH4 in a roadcase from Cali to Boston and it cost me around $500 via UPS. It was outrageous.

Shit, at that rate you might as well strap it down to a pallet and have it shipped long haul freight via DHL or YRC or something

Sucks for the OP

A few years ago, I got a traynor combo delivered. The seller had the amp in the box with zero padding.

The amp fit right inside the box. The amp was slightly damaged but only one of the plastic corners.

I totally lucked out

I too had a 2x12 avatar shipped to me Like that. Only had a small rip in tolex. Couldn't believe it.

I bought a Tremoverb last night. The clincher for me was that it was only 2 hours away so I just road tripped and picked it up.

The shipping gods have been in my favor over the years. Good luck! I have always wanted to try the PT's.

Bought a Very expensive guitar from Eddies about a year ago. Like most online boutique shops, u have a 48 hr approval period. If you don't like it, u can send it back and get a refund or try something else. Guitar was 6k. I got it and spend all day playing it, but at the end of the day it just didn't impress, and for 6k, a guitar needs to give me a total boner and then some. So I sent it back to Eddies via Fed Ex 2 day air. 4 days later, I had not received any reply from Eddies that the guitar made it back. I already had a guitar of equal value picked out for them to send me, so I have them a call. Nathan at Eddies got on the phone and said, "oh, hey man, we got the guitar back but Fed Ex smashed it. You are gonna need to file a claim!" This was the start of a 4 1/2 month living hell in which I had to call fed ex every day, got little to no help from Eddies,(even tho I had bought nearly 20k of guitars with them already) had to get a lawyer involved, ect..ect.. A total nightmare and I didn't even have the guitar. Eddies dodged my calls, the claim worker ad fed ex was the same. Finally I had to have my lawyer threaten to sue both Fed ex and eddies to get anyone moving on this. In the end, I got 75% of my money back and got to keep the guitar, which had a crack in the top from the toggle switch being pushed into the body. I had it repaired locally for 85$ and you could never tell anything ever happened to it. Eddies wanted me to send them my claim check from FedEx for 4,800$, and they would fix the guitar for me and send me back the repaired guitar. What a joke. They got my original 6k, then were going to get my claim check for 4800$ on top of that and I get the guitar I didn't really like. ???
Bottom line, if your stuck on this and have to deal with the fed ex claim process, call them every day. Be the squeaky wheel. Threaten to sue. The have to log in every time you call about it and eventually will want to get you resolved. It may take a while. It really sucks. Hopefully you can get it resolved.
PM me if you need any further advice. I'm well versed in this shit. (Sad to say)
