looking to pick one up as well as a 5150 cab for next to nothing, for solid state it seems pretty solid feature wise. anybody ever play around with one?

YES. I owned 2 over the years, and at one point even gigged it with a 5150 cab. They're great amps. They come with either a cheap plastic footswitch, or a metal one like the 5150 II. They are very versatile amps and can cover a lot of ground. Peavey Transtube amps are no joke - they all sound really good and very tube-like (I still own 2 solid state Peavey amps). I'm more fond of the "red stripe" Peavey transtube amps because they have a darker tone to them, but the Supreme series are great, too.

I thought the XXL actually sounded & performed better than the stock XXX head.
