So, check the link.....

Am I to believe that the Les Paul Traditional now truly has a SOLID MAHOGANY body? That is, it has no weight relief, be it chambering or "swiss cheesing"?

Who has one? If they are solid mahogany, they have to be north of 9 lbs, and prob. over 10 lbs?......

Enquiring minds wanna know!

My historics were solid bodies and often weighed under 9 pounds.

Really? Why do my Norlin-era LP's weigh over 11 pounds then?! Do they have a slab of iron inserted into the body or something?

My R4 Oxblood weighed 11 lbs. Im not sure what it is. If you go over to My Les Paul sometimes someone will post the sign that was taped on one of the doors at Gibson giving the weight ratio for each historic. I do think none historic solid body LPs tend to be heavy as shite.

I have said model, and that color as well, caramel burst. Mine is north of 10lbs., indeed. Solid mahogany, non-weight relieved, no chambering either. First guitar produced this way in 30 years for Gibson. Necks are hand sanded, of course, so they can vary. The neck on mine is HUGE!! Beefiest Gibson neck I've ever played, let alone owned.

Very nice!

My new Standard weighs 10.2 pounds. They changed the weight relief template. I have no idea what it looks like, but it is called "modern weight relief"

I got one from Sweetwater 9 lbs. 2 oz carmel burst, some standards with weight relief weigh more... It's a sweet guitar, played great out of the box.

You guys bought Standards and not Traditionals? How come, if you don't mind me asking?...

I have a 2013 with an amazing 3d top in lightburst for sale. Weighs 9lbs. 2 oz. Great guitars!

I bought the Standard because they got rid of the asymmetrical neck and its now similar to the Slim 60's neck. I prefer it over the Traditional neck. Plus the Standards are no longer chambered. The only drawback was the circuit board wiring...but I ripped it out anyway. I think the Traditionals still have normal pots/wiring.

One thing I did learn......you can't drop in new pickups in the Standard if you keep the circuit board and just put Molex plugs on the replacement pups. The Gibson pups in the circuit board guitars are wound differently to keep the phase correct. So you have to play a guessing game on wire colors if you do that. It also causes problems if you try to use those pickups in a traditional pot wiring schematic. I have no idea why they do this.

Id take a Standard over a Traditional just for the neck shape as well.

The 2013's sound very interesting but what about the rosewood board, is it still 2 pieces? I think Gibson felt the PRS pressure and decided to stop playing their games with the whole weight relieved nonsense. I always wondered why I couldnt buy a non historic solid mahogany bodied Gibson Les Paul until now.

I think it's just the whole weight issue and the state of mahogany being heavier these days on average. A lot of players didn't want to sling guitars that were over 10 lbs. The Custom Shop gets the limited stock of lighter cuts of wood. I think PRS has been chambering some of their guitars for similar reasons.
