QC: New update 1.0.2 as of 9/17

Had a completely impromptu Livestream today while jamming my QC and personal amp and pedal captures through the power section of a Marshall DSL20HR. I tried it on a whim and was so impressed with what I was hearing I immediately live streamed it just for fun. Mic'd the cab with an irig pre and an sm57 from my cell phone.

This Quad Cortex is the best digital amp I've ever played for one simple reason.

Turned it on this morning to preset #1, - capture of a 60 watt IIC+ - and started messing
around with some new licks. Have been riffing on and off for the last 8+ hours.

Just realized the thing has been parked on preset #1 all day.

Been looking for that from a digital amp for a long time.

I'm pretty tempted on picking up a QC just for the capturing and was wondering if anyone is able to tell me is it pretty straight forward and easy to capture your amps and have them sound accurate?

I've been messing with Kemper for almost 2 years now and making profiles that sound dead on like my amps just doesn't seem to work for me. My last straw was finally picking up the Kemper DI and while it does make profiles sound a littler better than say my Suhr RL or Waza TAE still not close enough and not worth the time I put into profiling only to have them sound boxy or bassy or too nasally or pretty much everything else except like my amp lol.

Anyway hoping to hear from someone that came from Kemper and has had success on capturing their amps accurately. Or do you need all kinds of mic's and mic preamps and yadda yadda etc... ? Thanks!

Just read this today. His second bullet point addresses your question.

Yup, that sounds promising. I guess what I really want to know is... if you plug something like a Synergy Syn1 with a module straight into a QC and capture it will it sound dead on like that module? Or does it sound more like it's inbred two headed cousin from some swamp in Louisiana?

All I know is if I did that test with a Syn1 into a Kemper it does not sound like the module... you need heavy modification (adding a boost or using an EQ block and tweaking) and even then it sounds more like a distant relative lol.

Maybe @JerEvil can do a vid of that scenario. Use his Syn2 + module straight into his QC and play both back thru his powerstation + cab for a comparison?

One big aspect of the QC is that unlike the Kemper, it can capture pedals.
I downloaded a capture of a Strymon Deco pedal (no clue what settings)
and it sweetens my tone so good I've added it to a footswitch on every one of my presets.

It's adding a really nice dirt along with some very slight modulation. And with the basic
capture controls I can make the Deco do so much more. (except mess with the mod)
gain-bass-mid-treble-volume.

Can't imagine a Synergy module would be seen as much different to the QC.

Yeah it should be easy peasy right? ;) And thats what I'd like to see if possible. Amp to a load box, line out to the QC and have it capture and sound like that amp. If only the Kemper could do it like that.

Once I get mine and figure out how to use it, I will do captures of all 3 channels of my Butterslax and Buxom Boost!

I can try this for sure

Got my QC Friday I have about an hour of experience with it, its worth the hype. I don't know if it has he best tones out there, or if it makes my real amps obsolete but I like it way better than my kemper which is loaded with the "best" 3rd party hi gain tones. The UI and ease if use is going to make this my go to any time i pick up a guitar. Happy to answer any questions about it.

Congrats man! So you have a Kemper and a QC right now? Do you happen to have a load box with a line out to make your own profiles? I'm just curious if you profile/capture an amp using a load box line out, will the QC sound like your amp? I do that with Kemper and it just doesn't sound right. I can profile it several times without changing any settings and sometimes the profiles will sound boxy on one take, then muffled on another take then nasaly but never the same lol. It drives me nuts a little.

I guess what I am hoping is to confirm with the QC is the simplicity of creating your own captures with minimal gear like a load box and having those captures be accurate. Thats all I want ;)

I do have both right now i was going to sell the kemper but i think i keep it around for a while for comparison. I don't have a load box but i plan on making some captures with my cabs. Ill look into getting a load box soon, I don't personally know anyone who's successfully made an "accurate" profile with a kemper do you? seems like all the big boys nail it but the home gamers have trouble.

sorry for hijacking this thread with QAs and info. Is there a general discussion thread for the QC?

Yeah my bad on thread hijacking for sure ? Thats the impression i'm getting to is you gotta have some fancy pants shit like the pros to make accurate Kemper profiles. Looking forward to your future post on capturing dude. ?

Can you explain better what you mean by 'takes'?
For example are there any changes whatsoever between takes with ANY of the hardware?

I only profiled two amps and both were done DI into the Kemper and with a load.
They both came out great and consistent between my 'takes'.
The only difference was how I approached playing during the fine tuning part of the profile.
Everything hardware stayed exactly the same.

Yup that is exactly what I spent a few hours on Saturday doing. Butterslax to Kemper DI box (connected to 2x12 with redbacks) to Kemper. Same hardware and only difference was how or what I played during refining. Then once profiled, connect the Kemper out to my fx return on the Slax thru my cab and just not the same at all.

So I've been messing with this every few months for the last year or so, tried with my Suhr RL, Waza TAE and recently picked up the official Kemper DI box as my last attempt. I will say the Kemper DI does seem to be a bit better... maybe I'm just too picky lol. When you refine do you palm mute/chug? Or nah? I've read not to palm mute to you should palm mute. I notice chugging makes it muddier from my experience.

I think you're on to something. My style is more leads and I've never really chugged - like at all.
(I'm really jealous of some of you guy's right hands when it comes to rapid down low stuff!)

Even when I would have profiles of say a Driftwood Nightmare I'd still just do my best Holdsworth
solo impression while playing. No chugs.

I wonder if that style is simply pushing the profile tech past its limits? Dunkin Donut Dude plays that
style and he's been really happy so far with QC Captures.

Man thats really interesting, cause when I refine I don't do any leads at all lol. Its usually AC/DC style riffs with open chords or chug fuckery lol. I'm gonna experiment more but overall what I really want to know does the QC need any special gear or whatever to be accurate? Sounds like it doesn't in comparison to the Kemper.

Sounds like it doesn't in comparison to the Kemper.

All I know is the tech is like what, 2-3 months out in the field with a terrible cloud capture
structure at the moment, yet I have a bunch of killer captures I've been using the past few
weeks with no urge to search for any more. (as of now  )

Scary good. Like pick a capture and next thing you know 30 minutes of jamming has
flown by without even thinking about the box once.

Saw this today and had to buy one just to check it out.

I got the Mark IV set.
Had to submit my Neural user name with the order and 10 mins later
the 'Shared with Me' folder on my QC unit had the captures in it via WiFi.
Pretty. Freaking Cool.

Got a total of 8 caps and will report back after I've checked them out.

How is the mark iv set? I got the free Orange Dark terror and the IIC+ pack but haven't tried it
