The best clips of guitar rigs I have heard have all been through wet/dry/wet rigs. What is it that makes w/d/w sound so much fuller than a ordinary stereo setup?

Is the purpose of the dry center cab the same as the center speaker in a hifi surround setup, that sound sorces that are mixed in center of the stereo field should physically be placed in the center by that speaker?

You who have w/d/w rigs, how do you do if you want a patch with 100% wet sound - for instance a tremolo? Do you mute the center cab in some way?

The w/d/w rigs I have heard that blew me away were Zachmans (sorry no link) and psychoaves :

Zachman has some great videos displaying the sound I'm talking about...

Pretty sure Dave just runs multiple cabs most of the time so he's pushing a lot of air.

I think he knows that............. ;)

Zach's vids are just raw rack progs going through a mixer and being summed and brought out to wet cabs, very good quality rack progs.

You go wdw you never go back, makes simple 1/2 stacks sound very small.

...unless you wire a 4x12 in stereo and have one side wet/dry and the other side dry. I have a single 4x12 wired up for just such an emergency
This may be a stupid question, but if you play a gig with your "emergency" cabinet, do you then have to mic both sides and use two channels on the board for FOH?

I typically run three 4x12's. My dry is completly dry, but my wet cabinets are both wet and dry. I do not run my wet cabs 100% wet. So I run W\D / DRY / W\D

What do you feel the center dry cab adds to your setup? What benefit does it have over a standard stereo setup?

The center cab adds punch and original tone to the sound.

OK.

Do you get any phasing issues between the L/R cabs and the center cab when you run a bit of the dry sound through the L/R cabs?

I need an ear on my forehead to properly hear w/d/w

When listening to a hifi surround system you would need ears in the back of your neck as well then... ;)

It depends on what speakers I am using and how far apart the cabs are from each other. I do notice phasing when the effects are in stereo....like chorus.

What part of Sweden are you from? I have some friends that live in Finspong.

I live in Örebro which is not far from Finspång. I friend of mine, Dan Swanö (edge of sanity, bloodbath, nightingale etc..), used to live there before he moved to Örebro.

This is it pretty much...

For me, the Dry cab is to keep the integrity of the original amp tone in tact. Like my hero psychodave, I too can run the dry signal into my wet cabs. My particular rig affords the flexibility to run mono, stereo (If I use my hotplate set to load, which eliminates the center dry cab), w/d, w/d/w, wd/d/wd, or d/d/d. I have no phasing issues to speak of and am VERY pleased with the gear, and how it's routed-- as the reason for having no phasing issues- and providing me with the platform to get the sounds I want and to control it all in real time.

Here are a few stereo mix examples, of my rig:

(Mentoneman-Pat recorded this, w/ Brad playing the guitar)

Thanks for the recognition guys. It's nice to know that you guys are as into the tones as I am.

Cool, thanks.

I have an eventide eclipse on the way, I'll try and connect my modfactor in series with it. The modfactor could do the chorusing and eclipse can do the delay and reverb. I hope I will come close to your sound!

Congrats on the Eclipse.

You will be surprised at just how many cool sounds are in that box. READ the manual, starting now... It's rather involved, but you'll be up and running with it much faster than if you wait until you get the unit.

The preset manual will give you some ideas of what sort of algorithms are in there, and likely have you salivating at the prospect of getting the unit-- even more than you already are. ;) Enjoy
