I found a 78 Marshall 4x12 local, and it has g12h blackbacks. Anyone know what these are similar to? Guy is asking $650, good price?

Go for it. Blackbacks rule. Are they 55hz or 75hz? Either way I like them both. The g12m 55hz are the worst ones .

It’s going to be similar to all of the various reissue g12H speakers, if you’ve heard them. My only experience with them was a late ‘70s cab that I used with an SLO. It was unpleasantly zingy to my ears, but lots of people seem to like the speakers.

I had a 74 1960a that had the cream magnet cover G12M 55hz...and I've had 3 BB cabs from 76-78 that had G12M 75 and G12H 55 and that 74 cab shit all over every GB cab I had. Those RIC cones rule.

Maybe the Kurt Mueller G12M 55hz are garbage, but the earlier versions are incredible.

55hz

Buy it. I wouldn’t sell my individual speakers for less than $200 a piece. Or a complete cab for less than $1,200. Just make sure the speakers don’t have any rips or tears or voice coil rubs.

Same here, I have a old 79' marshall b cab that has creamback g12m 55hz speakers that I call the secret weapon. I have yet to hear any cab that comes close, it plain smokes...
:rawk:

55hz g12h are good, h75 I don't love nor do I like g12m 55hz

Those 55hz Blackbacks are pretty aggressive in the upper frequencies. Not smooth and creamy like a Greenback. The Blackbacks are good with lots of gain as they provide plenty of sizzle and definition.

I had a cab from that era. Yes it was pretty damm bright, and I was using Mesa Mark amps on it. I imagine a Marshall on it would rip your head off with top end.
