Just curious whether or not a blocking cap is 100% necessary on the input of an amp. My ongoing Jet City 50 project amp originally had 47uF electrolytic blocking caps on the input and also the FX return but were damaged so I pulled them out and just jumpered the pads with bus wire. I'm wondering if they are recommended or not and if so what value would be ideal. The pin spacing is very small like 3.5mm and I actually have two pairs of film caps with the correct spacing to fit. Checking the high pass filter calculator the 4700pF caps would put the corner frequency at 33Hz and the 6800pF would be 23Hz. Anyone have any thoughts on any of this? Any specifics I should be aware of? Other than RF filtering or blocking possible DC what would be the pros and cons of the blocking caps?
