Hey fellas... just picked up a Mark IV... looking to be able to use my Gmajor II to switch a few things on the head...

So I'm on Guitar-Cable.com looking into getting a simple Y cable made... the Gmajor only has one switching output... and can switch two different relays... I know the end that goes into the Gmajor obviously has to be a TRS 1/4" cable... but for the other 2 ends... do they need to be stereo as well? Or does it matter? I was thinking they needed to be mono since I am splitting the stereo to two mono cables... but I have no idea... any help would be appreciated!!!

If I am not mistaken the GM2 cannot switch the MKIV safely. I may be wrong with the Mark series, but I know for a fact TC electronics tells you not to use the GM2 relay to switch channels/fx/etc. with the rectifier series. I remember them saying it counld damage the amp or the GM2.

Did some research for you.

"According to Mesa Boogie Tech dept, these units require an isolated ground connection for each of the rear panel 1/4" external switching inputs. Since Y-Split cables are sharing the ground, they cannot be used from the G-System or G-Major (which output connection is TRS) because they could cause damage to the amp switching network." (this is referencing models other than the Mark series) http://tcsupport.custhelp.com/app/answe ... 202%20mesa

For the Mark 2-4, they say
"The Mark series (Mark 2,3 & 4, Quad, Studio Preamp, formula Preamp, V-Twin rack Preamp) can be used with Y-Split cables"

So there you have it, You can use a simple Y cable ( 1 stereo into 2 mono) to switch 2 functions on the MKIV. This means there will be several functions you wont be able to control. If it is in the budget, I would just get a RJM Amp Gizmo w/ the custom cable for the MKIV and be able to control all functions of the MK IV with that

I used a Mark IV for years and had to go with an external piece of gear in order to be able to switch the Mark IV with midi.

I used a Rockman Midi Octopus, 8 inputs, so there is enough for the 6 different switchable functions on the Mark IV.

Just have to plug each one into the Midi Octopus and then you can program the octopus for which thing you want on/off. Then, run it midi to the Gmajor.

What foot controller are you using??

I'm using a MIDI Moose... I've seen on several forums people using a Y cable to switch their mark amps... that's where I got the idea... I only need to be able to switch from channel 1 to channel 3... so it should work perfect for me...

If you just need to switch between ch 1 and 3 then it would be perfect for you. Just need a Y cable and you are all set.

One end being TRS and the other two ends being regular mono correct?
