Question for Dave on PI tube in BE-100 (balanced or not)?

I wanted to hopefully hear (straight from the horses mouth, so to speak) on whether or not the PI tube specifically in the BE-100 should be balanced or of it doesn't matter at all. I posted this here instead of emailing Dave so maybe others could learn from it too.

I have read so much conflicting stuff on the PI tube balanced vs. unbalanced that I don't know what the hell to believe (this tends to happen when I try to educate myself on something  ). I am guessing (maybe incorrectly) that in the BE-100 and other similar AB amps the entire power section following the PI tube really isn't totally balanced anyway, so maybe a balanced PI tube helps maintain that imbalance??? I don't know. What do you say, Dave? Does it matter in the BE-100? Does it EVER matter in ANY amp?

Also, I want to take the opportunity to thank Dave publicly for both designing and building an amp I absolutely LOVE, and also for great service on an issue I had and tolerating my questions and emails as I learned more about the amp. Thank you Dave!

Not really needed no. Everything is unbalanced really. It's not a bad idea to know the PI tube has similar gain on both sides of the tube though. So it wouldn't hurt to have a tested tube there.

Thank you Dave. Good to know. I'll go for tested tubes that have tested as being relatively equal on each side of the tube for the PI then.
