Can you guys describe the pickups for me? Do they sound similar to any other aftermarket pickups? I'm looking for some different pickups for my Les Paul. While the Burstbucker Pros I have in there now worked great with my TriAmp, they are way too bright for my 5150 III. I played one of the Wolfgang specials the other day and thought the pickups sounded great. Trying to see if there is a Duncan pickup that might be comparable to them- so I don't have to drop $125 for a pickup. Thanks!

I've been through this before the EVH pickups were available. So, here's what I would do if were in your position: Grab a ToneZone...add a 0.047uF capacitor on the hot wire. This will tame the sometimes overbearing low frequencies in a Les Paul w/ TZ. Or increase that value for an even bigger difference. It tightens things up a TON on the bottom-end and is the cheapest, easiest mod you'll ever find your self doing. Sounds like a hotter EBMM EVH humbucker, really. Especially if you "air" that magnet inside by replacing the metal spacer with a rubber or plastic shim. This will open it up more, making it sound less compressed and gainy. Un-aired sounds more raw and slightly scooped like the Wolfgang pups. Experiment and enjoy!

dimarzio super distortion with a magnet change to an Alnico V = closest attitude to a wolfgang bridge pickup. The neck pickup is near an air norton. I had a friend with an air norton go back and forth with the same lick as i played on my wolfy neck pickup and the voicings are so close that it should be considered identical.

The bridge pickups sound great.

Bumping an old thread to see if anyone has some new info/experience with this? I'm interested in changing the pickups in my Wolfgang.

I've read that they won't fit into a Peavey Wolfgang without a lot of modification. Can anyone attest to that?

elaborate?

Never had a single problem fitting dim's or SD's into a wolfgang. Any other brands/makes/models/custom pickups i cannot speak for.

I mean the EVH branded Wolfgang pickups won't fit into a Peavey Wolfgang.

The footprint on the EVH pickups is square and wont fit unless you file the foot into a 'V' shape like Dimarzios

I tend to like to switch out the pick ups on guitars I buy and my tastes lean towards MCP's but I've not heard a reason to switch out the ones that came in my EVH Wofgangs.

I would like to add to this thread another question.

Evh USA vs evh special ?

Besides carved top any other difference. I regret selling my evh USA. Everyday !
However I'd like a diff color n the special is much cheaper.
