just rejoined the Mark III family—simul blue eq long head. really having fun with it!

what is the currently preferred od/boost pedal of choice to hit the input with when wanting to grease the lead channel into legato land? not so much adding dirtbike grind but more fat liquid touch sensitivity to single notes without flubbing out rhythms as my pickups are very low output.

mahalo!

Carl Martin Plexi-Ranger.
Great with a lot of of other amps as well.

You don't need no boost, you got it sounding great already!
mahalo!
don’t get me wrong the thing is a face puncher!
just looking for a little more fat grease on the single notes and hoping i can find the right box for the job!

ok dude here’s the best part— i gotta spill the beans on this ridiculous find. you may get a bit more jealous..?

i stopped into this funky consignment store recently to buy a used golf club (stepson broke my 1 wood?) and discovered they sold electronics like cameras and watches and stereos…..

and musical items.

i started poking around and stumbled on this on a shelf in the back of the store (can you see the price tag?!!)?

it was labeled “junk” because it did not seem to be working property. fired it up and tubes glowed, but it had no volume on clean or rhythm 2 but barely audible sound on lead channel.

i had the guy at the check out counter allow me to open up the chassis to check out the guts.

seemed to be in pretty good condition internally but clearly hadn’t been used in a long time.

i was totally not in the market for an amp, but for that price i rolled the dice (no returns or warranty on “junk” items) and promptly took it to my friend’s gtr store where it just so happened that his tech was there working on a boogie bass amp and had just serviced two Mark IIIs earlier that week. asked him do a diagnostic.

got a call the next day. ready for pickup!
tech found one bad resistor and someone had been in it and apparently wired the volume control improperly which he corrected. the other variables, reverb fan and fx loop, were working perfectly and tubes tested fine! $200 for 2 hrs service.
winning!!!

came with the rhythm and lead footswitches and original instruction manual and service sheet, but no reverb/eq switch. big deal! i gots me a boogie again!!

Winning!!

Sounds sweet as is. What speakers you running in the clip?
Mahalo! and ironically, the “Mahalo” 4x12 is loaded with WGS veterans 30 which is their spin on vintage 30s

that was another insane deal! GC was blowing out the Mahalo line and that cab sat in there for a few years at $1099 new-marked down to $350 so walked out with it for $200 and some pedals in trade i wasn’t using.

Man that already sounds great without a boost, excellent playing as well!
mahalo! i’m really looking forward to integrating it into my rack rig too. speaker out into the juice extractor for parametric eq and hush, line out to my rig to sample the direct tones.

Careful with that Juice Extractor, especially that it's likely over 30 years old. Those things have a fairly decent reputation for reliability, but not great. Over the years I've heard of a few (not many but enough to take notice), accounts of people frying their amp's transformers with them.

Hey Pat-you ever see Zach? and does he still have the rack from hell and the colosiums?

appreciate the head’s up and i do know of the nefarious side of it. the tech that serviced my amp went through my extractor 2 years ago and totally overhauled it. plus i’m not going to dime the amp.

i talk to him all the time. he moved to Arizona.
he no longer has the legendary coli. that is still the best Mark III i’ve ever heard! in fact when i went to lift my head i was expecting that traumatically ridiculously insane weight of his coli and was pleasantly surprised how light it was!
he still has a blue stripe combo and that incredible cameron atomica of his. he used it recently to track some stuff at our friend’s studio in phoenix and it sounds killer!

he also pieced out some of his bradshaw rack stuff recently.

Shit, that's killer...done busted out the switchblade rack!

i have very cool friends!

you would thought you died and went to guitar heaven if you could see the man cave my other friend has. i’m supposed to hang out with him in a week or so and hope to share a pic/clip or two.

between these two guys, i cannot even imagine wanting a cooler assortment of gtr toys to play with!

I'm wondering what the unit above the switchblade is....is it a 2nd mixer? I've often thought(and seeing fripp have a mixer with his switchblade) that headroom issues would be eliminated if you could have one master bus/mixer to take the beating when summing all the outputs of your effects units.
