I think it lacks some of the juicyness that Engls and Mesa Marks have, a bit less saturated.

It's dry and tight, articulate and direct, but if you're looking for liquidy leads, look further... :aww:

Or use a boost. The amp can absolutely melt into liquid territory.
I'm typically looking to get that sound without a boost.
Mesa Mark IV or Mark V(25) does that with ease, same as the Engl Ironball, Invader and SE...the Sig:X will do better medium gain tones (Marshally meets Hiwatt) though.

For live playing I try to work as lean as possible; hence guitar directly into amp, fx-board for fx-loop only stuff.

I had one, and I found that yes , without a boost it didnt quite get there for me. So I ran a 7 band eq in the loop. And a touch of delay put it where I wanted.

Maybe its the various versions of it, im not familiar with some of those models.I did play a sig x once tho.Steve himself just went completely over my clx from top to bottom, new tubes, other service work and the thing just peels paint off the walls. Hugh tight tight bottom( graphic eq not even maxed out),so much gain in yellow and red channels I'll never need the knobs past 1 oclock.Absolutely no need for a boost of any kind whatsoever.ever.( with a tele)- the clx will do killer cleans, blues, hot modern country, all the way to chugga smugga and beyond..and I haven't even put a metal guitar thru it yet lol .Steve's the man!

Honestly never felt like I needed to boost the Sig:X for anything. I like a little boost sometimes for a little bit more cut, but it's never been a necessity. In fact, it's only recently that I've boosted it.

I'm actually surprised at how many of you think it lacks gain without a boost pedal.

It's not so much that it's lacking GAIN on itself, it can perhaps lack the saturation and 'liquidity' if you're comparing it to an Engl or a Mesa Mark series.

Agree....if I use a boost or overdrive it about changing the feel as much as the sound.
In general I feel a lot of people use too much gain. You lose punch and definition. Really is about what type of sounds your after.... I've used the Sig X many times with a band and used no pedals other than a wa and phase.
