Have any of you seen UFO recently with Vinnie Moore? If so, how was it? Does Vinnie do MS any justice? Does he capture any of the vibe and tone?

Vinnie is a great player but Im leary of guys stepping in for other players who defined a bands sound, case in point Deep Purple. I love Steve Morse but I cant stand him in deep purple, he just doesnt cut it for me when it comes to recreating Blackmore IMO

I'm a big Schenker fan and a big Vinnie Moore fan and he does stay true to Schenk's solos

I know he takes a little flack for shredding he still has a great ear for vibrato and tone/pick attack so he can really nail the Schenker feel.

+1 on morse in purple..i do like the guys style but it doesn't fit with purple..seen them 4 times with morse..dunno about you guys but i personally think satriani did a great job when he filled in when blackmore left in 94..

Dude, case in point freakin' Tommy Bolin in Deep Purple...

I can't say 'cause I was never a big UFO fan. I can say that I'm really dig'n Vinnie's new CD..."To The Core."

thanks for posting this, I really enjoyed it and I think that he does MS and the music justice. I watched several other clips and now Im really pissed that I blew them off when they came here 2 weeks ago

Saw them at BB Kings in NYC at the beginning of october, Vinnie does a great job covering schenker in my opinion, he was definitely on that night. I see vinnie fairly often around my home town and this is the first time i have ever actually seen him play and he tore it up that night...

Definitely check them out it was a great show...

haven't seen vinnie with UFO, but i things hes a good fit. he stays true to the original solos, and puts his own shred spin on some licks. i like paul chapman in UFO better though, and schenker is IMO the greatest guitar player to ever walk the earth. vinnie is much better in UFO than morse in purple though.

It's kind of like the last few lineups in Journey for me. Though I appreciate the abilities and would still pay to see the "New Guy's" in concert, It will never be the same without the "Originals"................................

Examples:

UFO w/ MS
REO w/ GR
Journey w/ SP

And above all, Def Leppard with Steve Clarke & Pete Willis! :D

Vinnie is doing a good job and he's going as far as UFO can probably ever go these days. Vinnie's new CD, "To The Core," is pretty good. It was a departure from some of the monotonous stuff he was doing for a while. It's a decent album, but not in my top favorite Vinnie Moore albums. I still like Time Odyssey, Mind's Eye, and The Maze probably the best of all.

It's not a bad album by any means. If you're a Vinnie Moore fan, you should still buy the album. Vinnie is such an incredible player, not just technique but in arrangements and note choices. I think a lot of times his playing sounds rehearsed. Even his bluesy stuff just sounds too clean so I think it's hard for him to convey a lot of emotion that way. There are times though when he lets loose and hits some sweet notes and nails some sweet runs, and that's when Vinnie is at his best.

A couple of my favorite songs are Pieces of a Picture and Beyond the Door. Vinnie is absolutely incredible and underrated in my opinion.

I'm sure Vinnie does a great job - as proven by the videos, but I can't make myself want to see them without Schenker - To see them I'd have to really have nothing to do - and that just doesn't happen.

Kage- as a fellow Schenker head, IMO Vinnie Moore does an OK job filling in for Michael, but it's not quite the same. Vinnie's still a shredder at heart and he plays all the right notes, but doesn't have the same heart when he plays it. I'm sure the average listener could care less.

I've seen the VM version once and that was enough. As a matter of fact, they were just here on the 21st and I turned down free tix.

This is what I think too. Vinnie is good but Micheal....come on. The notes just pour out of him when he is on. Amazing!

I remember when I was a kid hearing attack of the mad axeman and the desert song etc. Thats when I wanted to play guitar. period.

Melody playing on a genius level like no other! and the vibrato...oh the vibrato! lol!

Speaking of Michael Schenker and Pete Willis:

Did you know that the lead lick that Pete Willis plays at the 1:41 mark of Def Leppard's Rock Brigade (from On Through the Night) is virtually the same lick that Michael Schenker plays at the 2:37 mark of UFO's Lights Out (from Strangers in the Night)?

Just thought you should know.

Vinnie's been doing the UFO gig for several (maybe more than 5? years now). The two albums I have aren't stellar, but Vinnie's more of a support guy, plus the guys in UFO are now in their mid 50's, so it's a different vibe. I would think if the Vinnie situation wasn't working, he would have left a long time ago. From the info I get from Vinnie via Facebook, it would appear that he's having a blast being in a stable band situation.

Kage,

I'm as big a Schenker/UFO fan as you'll find, and I think Vinnie does a fantastic job with them! Schenker was one of Vinnie's influences, and it shows! It was kind of strange hearing "You Are Here" the first time, which is basically Vinnie's "Out of Nowhere" record with vocals, but it works!

I highly recommend picking up UFO's excellent "Showtime" live DVD/documentary with Vinnie, a must-have for any UFO fan, IMO!

Some samples:

Also, if you haven't picked up Michael's MSG 30th Anniversary Concert on blu-ray, you've gotta get it, he's got his shit back together and looks, sounds and plays like the Michael of old again!

Dean did a limited run of hand signed Michael Schenker guitars... they made a few extras but wouldn't paint them in the black white sig paint... I got one in black with gold hardware, another with chrome.... and a white one with nickle (I'm changing it out to black)...

taking this off the vinnie topic, but damn...that recent version of Into the Arena by Schenker was killer. The vibrato at 2:50 is incredible.
