Question for the UFO/Michael Schenker fans/fanatics here

I went to see UFO 2 years ago BECAUSE Vinnie Moore was in UFO. I'm a Vinnie Moore fan 1st and UFO/Michael Schenker fan 2nd but, with that being said--Vinnie Moore does tremendous justice to the UFO history/lineage/legacy of music. He fits in awesomely. He plays Schenker's recognizable leads close to note for note and throws in a bit of himself where the solos aren't as "thematic" Vinnie Moore has some tremendous feel Kage!

Have any of you seen UFO recently with Vinnie Moore? If so, how was it? Does Vinnie do MS any justice? Does he capture any of the vibe and tone?

Vinnie is a great player but Im leary of guys stepping in for other players who defined a bands sound, case in point Deep Purple. I love Steve Morse but I cant stand him in deep purple, he just doesnt cut it for me when it comes to recreating Blackmore IMO

Kage

Funny you should mention Steve Morse and Vinnie. I sat right beside Vinnie and Tony MacAlpine at a NAMM show the Dregs played in Atlanta in 89. Both Vinnie's and Tony's jaws were on the floor just like mine. lol

Dude, case in point freakin' Tommy Bolin in Deep Purple...

The Come Taste The Band album stands the test of time. Bolin used Purple as a stepping stone, nothing more.
The tunes Bolin wrote and played live with Purple were great, but he was never about playing Blackmore's stuff note for note.

I actually don't mind Vinnie in UFO, but it's not the same. I actually really liked Jeff Kollman on the Mogg/Way release Chocolate Box, so good. Great playing. Too bad they couldn't get him to commit full time.

Schenker is in his own league though, my favorite player.

Dean did a limited run of hand signed Michael Schenker guitars... they made a few extras but wouldn't paint them in the black white sig paint... I got one in black with gold hardware, another with chrome.... and a white one with nickle (I'm changing it out to black)...

Nice guitars!! I had a chance to grab a mint USA Schenker for under $1000 off of the bay, but I was leaving on vacation the next day and knew that I shouldn't spend the cash. It ended up going for $940. I would have easily bid it up to $1600 if I wasn't leaving.

How do Dean's sound? I've thought about buying a non-Schenker Dean to save some cash on the name if it's more or less the same thing, but then I feel guilty about not giving Michael something back. He's the one artist that I will buy everything he puts out just because he has given me so much with his music.

taking this off the vinnie topic, but damn...that recent version of Into the Arena by Schenker was killer. The vibrato at 2:50 is incredible.

that whole concert is incredible!!!

Holy shit I am buying that now! What great tone and feel MS has. Is he past his not showing up for gigs and playing drunk out of his skull period? He had a bad run there not too long ago.

Also, if you haven't picked up Michael's MSG 30th Anniversary Concert on blu-ray, you've gotta get it, he's got his shit back together and looks, sounds and plays like the Michael of old again!

 I got this a couple of months ago and it's Michael at his best! He's clean & sober and his playing and tone are just killer on this DVD. Highly recommend that you play it at unhealthy decibel levels for maximum effect!!

I cannot listen to Morse Purple at all. Wow, that's terrible stuff.

Blackmore is Purple.

yeah, I think he's past that, at least for now   I saw him last time he was in Hollywood, which was I think the last leg of the last tour and he was killing it!

It's kind of like the last few lineups in Journey for me. Though I appreciate the abilities and would still pay to see the "New Guy's" in concert, It will never be the same without the "Originals"................................

Examples:

UFO w/ MS
REO w/ GR
Journey w/ SP

And above all, Def Leppard with Steve Clarke & Pete Willis! :D

FYI - Steve Perry is not an "original". Journey put out three albums (S/T*, Next, and Look into the Future. *as opposed to their 4th album which was also self titled but was the first with SP) before SP came along. BTW, these three albums were by far (IMHO) the best albums Journey did. Much more guitar jam oriented and less "pop" that anything they did after getting SP.
