Questionable SG?

Saw this on GC Used and something's off about this guitar. The neck humbucker positioning really jumped out at me right away and the headstock shape after comparing other SG photo's from the same era is off too.

Looks like the pickguar was replaced with a cheapo piece of plastic.

I dont think they put bezels around the pups on this model in 2006 but I am not sure on that. Someone should be fired at GC for buying that!

The carve on the top of the headstock looks too deep compared to what I'm used to and what pics I could find of SG's from the same year.

Completely agree that something ain't right with both the pick guard and the headstock on that one. But to be fair, ALL full-faced pick guard SGs ain't right.

I emailed the store about it but haven't received a reply. Didn't want some kid thinking they're finally getting a Gibson and it's really a Chibson.

Judging by the angle of the Gibson logo and the placement and spacing of the tuning keys on that weird shaped headstock, I'd say it's a fake. Neck pup looks like it's too far away from the fretboard too.

It's a lot further from the fretboard than the one on my SG (granted, mine is a few years older). Also, the little insignia below the Gibson logo is much larger than the one on my SG.

I just told him no, I would not be interested in buying a fake Gibson. Yes it was just an FYI contact.
