Questions regarding S/PDIF connection on Torpedo Live

Hi there, just got my Torpedo Live a few days ago. I am having some questions regarding how to set it up.

Here is my chain: Guitar -- Mesa Boogie Mark V -- Torpedo Live -- Prism Sound Orpheus -- ProTools on Mac

1, I have been trying to use the S/PDIF connection between the Live and Orpheus with no success. In the menu it says Live has to be the Master but I can't find it anywhere to set the Live as Master or the orpheus as Slave. Do I need to set the clock source somewhere too? Does the sampling rate has to be the same on both end of the S/PDIF connection(e.g., 48K)?

2, Signal quality wise is it better to use the S/PDIF instead of the Line In/Out connection between the Live and Orpheus? Because if I use the S/PDIF, the A/D conversion is done within Live. While the Orpheus has a much better ADDA, so should I use Line In/Out between the Live and Orpheus instead so I could leave the A/D conversion to the Orpheus for better result?

3, Since I am using Mark V head going through speaker out to the Live, I shouldn't turn on the P. AMP in the Remote as I understand. But what is the button on the left of the P.AMP "ON" button for? It toggles between "Torpedo" and "Computer". Is that the Pre-Amp Sim which I shouldn't be using, right? Which state should I be on with that button?

Thanks a lot.

You need to set the Orpheus' clock to sync to Spdif (their nomenclature "DI" or digital input I guess) and your session needs to be either 48kHz or 96kHz. If you need to work at 44.1kHz (or 88kHz), best use the analog input.

Using the digital out will result in the lowest overall system latency and purest path. You would also be able to extract the dry which can be further processed via WOSIII in your DAW. When using the Live, you'd need to pass the signal through the Live's A/D stage even if the Orpheus has converters that may be better or different. You could compare the conversion with a borrowed Reload if you wish to see what difference it would make.

The Power amp would generally be bypassed when using a real amp but some users run their amps at lower volumes and then actuate the power amp modeling with success. You may be confusing the computer/local button next to it which is related to which patch library you are using, nothing to do with the power amp section.

hope that helps,

great. I got it working today. thanks a lot for the reply
