Quiet High Gain Amps

My Mesa Roadster was almost "off" quiet until I hit the strings. My Mark V is almost as quiet.

My Mesa Royal Atlantic is quiet, even in the cranked red channel. One of the quietest, hiss free amps I've owned.

What's a "Quite" amp?

An amp that is quite- as in almost, as high gain, as a high gain amp?

Maybe an amp that doesn't have as much distortion as a full high gain amp?

I say just find the tone you want out of whatever amp you prefer and throw a decimator in front of it. Works for me and countless others.


I always see posts like this. For me the decimator has not really worked in the front. I get pretty good hiss removal in the loop though. Knob at about 11 o'clock or so. In front has never really helped for me. Most of you guys run it in the front?

Yup I run it in front. At 11 like you. I find that because loops change the tone even a little I'm avoiding putting anything in my loop ATM....works great.

Carol-Ann or Diezel. Both have been silly quiet compared to say an Engl.

For the amount of gain they have, the 5150III series of amps are very quiet.

I've tried many amps and my 5153 is one of the quietest high-gain amp and it cleans very very well with guitar volume
almost like a single channel amp
