Quitting a band via text message

Had a singer quit the band after only 2 rehearsals. I think she got a bit upset at our constructive criticism. She picked two songs to learn and came to practice a week later not knowing either.

Anywho...she quit via text. No big deal. I'm curious how you guys feel about quitting a band via text message. I guess I'm old school. If I ever quit a band or anything else of that nature I've always done it face to face or over the phone. I think quitting via text is lame and cowardly, but that's imho.

What do you think? Quitting via text - cowardly or convenient?

If you only had two rehearsals with her was she really in the band? In that case text is ok. In the band for a long time I think it needs to be talked about face to face.

If you have an unlimited texting deal and it didn't cost you anything, I can't see how it's a problem.

It's a question of etiquette, brother axe. It isn't whether or not it cost me anything or how many practices she had with us. I'm of the notion that it shows more backbone to do things like that in person, regardless of one practice, two, etc. Not trying to say one way is better, just curious how everyone else views the question.

That's society these days. No one returns phone calls, pretty much no one answers calls.

My line was a brilliant take on that commercial where the doctor is texting about the football player's shattered knee while the player was right in front of him. "Don't worry, you're not costing me any money...I'm dropping you from my fantasy team..."

Trust me, it was very funny.

Same here. Two rehearsals isn't really "in the band", more of a tryout.
If it was a permanent member for years, I would've thought it a little strange.

It's the way of the world. Hell I can barely get my daughter to call me anymore, all she does is text, it frustrates me but it just seems to be the way people are. Very avoidable.

The guitar player and close friend in my band for 15 years quit via email. How does that rate?

^that is a different case- 15 years of friendship requires a phone call...although it could be email first, followed by a phone call in the next day. One might have a lot of points to make that is more clearly articulated via the written word.

Yeah, because I've never had my typed words on this forum taken out of emotional context.

I just realize that I at 40 are now completely out of the loop socially and my ways of direct and earnest communication are antiquated and has-been for the technically savvy and gifted future wonderkinds. Stop tweetin' on my lawn you hoodlums!
