Rack tube preamp (AC30)

I'm looking for a good guitar preamp rack 1U unit that can do AC30 type of sound.

Any suggestion ?

Not sure it is a 1 u, more 2u and you can still find them used and modules stock or modded over at the RAndall forum (type MTS forum into google)

Don't know what I'd do without my AC30 tones. I tried to profile my AC30CC using a Kemper rack, but I couldn't get it to sound right.

The Eleven Rack has a fantastic sounding AC30 model.

the problem with 11R is that I can't disable the power amp section emulation. The only part I need is a preamp, I already have a tube power amp (mesa 20/20 el84)

also I now have the place for a 2U preamp

It doesn't need to be a perfect recreation of AC30, but has to be a low/medium gain grit

This is to be mix in my Wet/Dry/Wet rig on the wet section to add a little push when I need. I already have a great main amp (XTC bogner)

PSA. I believe the RPM is exclusively a bass preamp.

"What power amp do you recommend using with the SansAmp products?


Any solid state power amp with at least 100 watts of power should have enough clean headroom to amplify your tone without coloring it further or adding additional distortion. Since the SansAmp offers tube amp emulation, using a tube power amp could possibly add too much compression."


my power amp (mesa) has tube and add coloration, I think with the PSA we have too use SS amp like Matrix or Rocktron

I need to find a preamp that fit with a tube power amp... So far Triaxis and Engl look like high gain preamp that it's not my need

Seems to me, you should be able to disable power amp emulation in the PSA... No? If you don't mind using a pedal in your rack, the Tech 21 "Liverpool" is a great sounding pedal. The newest V2 model has cabinet emulation select.

The USA Soldano SP-77 (purple face) gets some of the best sounding cleans I've ever heard. It is however a 2 space unit... The gain channel will be a bonus!

Rocktron will soon be releasing the ValveSonic, a 1u and very versatile preamp. It looks extremely promising. As far as legacy stuff, I would suggest the Mesa V-twin, that's a very underrated 1u preamp.

Ada MP-1 has great clean. Both SS and Tube. Don't know how much it sounds like an AC30 though. I thought a lot of that sound was the EL84s
