the best 1u ive ever heard for vox is egnater module hands down end of story

it punched several "vintage" ac30s i've played and heard and mixed live sound with right in the face, and every reissue model i've heard from the 90's on up chews goat pellets.

carl martin AC tone is nice in a pedal and kinda a sleeper is the pigtronix class A boost---that thing has some of the spitty dusty chime in it.

sometimes it seems like vox/korg don't even have a clear idea of what the classic ac30 sound that made it famous really is anymore. for me it has to be a tele or maybe a ricky twanging on the front end and old bulldogs and old glass. new tubes sound too congested in an already mid heavy amp by nature most of the time.

same seems true with marshall losing what a plexi is supposed to sound like although it thought they did a great job with the jtm45 reissue last NAMM.

now that landau is putting out a sig fender combo maybe we will get some blackface mojo back into one of their new amps...

Hi

I reviewed my needs, I think I was to specific with the AC30 tone...

basically what I need to do is :

I want to add a preamp 1u or 2 u rack space into my setup, basically is to add a little push for a big sound into my 2 WET cabs (1x12). I already have a Bogner XTC 101b as the DRY amp and a Mesa 20/20 el84 as the WET amp. I use a line mixer to mix the time base effects for the WET sides, and want to add a dry signal (other texture) to my WET side when I need it to get a big sound, no need to be as much dirt as my Bogner, in fact I look to more airy tone.

What do you recommend to me ?

for now my research point to different choices :
jmp-1
triaxis
v-twin rackmount

I did have a bad experience with Pedal (Matchless Hotbox) that claim it's a preamp. It's not a real preamp that can be connect directly to a power amp. It's sometime a pedal that need to be put in front of a existing preamp.

As I said my main amp is a Bogner XTC and I have a W/D/W config. The Wet side is powered by a mesa 20/20 tube amp and I use a line mixer.

My line mixer has 4 inputs, I use 2 for reverb and delay and I plan to use another to add a little preamp to kick and make it louder and fuller.

My idea of a AC30 came from several artist that blend AC30 with main amp (STP, The Cult, Alice In chains, etc...)

That particular Kingsley is a true preamp made to feed into a power amp.

AC/30 type preamp?...this is it.Custom shop badcat

This reminds me of something I always wanted to try, AC30's on the outside of a main amp. Maybe not so much for WDW but I think that would just crush! Imagine AC30/XTC/AC30

It does.

difficult to find ... but very interessting

for the moment I will go with a standard preamp (mesa v-twin rackmount) that I will set in low gain setting and keep eyes open on Bad Cat or Matchless rack preamp

I had the matchless gp2 preamp for years.Great clean sound in it.Better " voxy" cleans than any bogner, mesa, soldano, vht, and Marshall preamps...and those do have nice cleans too.I gigged with the matchless for a long time and thought I'd go to a few high end amp companies to build an even better vox type preamp..badcat was the only one that was willing to give it a try.I've got the first one- James has #2.It was very expensive, but it nails it and delivers the goods. It is without a doubt my best clean sound but has a killer British overdrive in it too....even foot switchable preamp tubes!.. Plus a zillion other features.I think it was at namm a few years ago too.

Kingsley squire series, three to choose from, mount on a shelf.

Right on!

Even better wacky idea...AC30's on top of 2x12's(wet) so your getting main amp, Voxiness, and Stereo FX.

From early 90s, maybe 92/93. Only a few built but can be found if you look around seriously.

kingsley squire AC, not a rack unit though, get a shelf.
