Racking Pedals...Help!

Going back to a head and pedals for my live rig after many years (20+) of using various rack systems. I can't quit cold turkey though so I plan to rack my pedals and use a switching system. I've never done this before so I have a few questions:

1. What is the best platform to use...sliding rack tray? Is two spaces enough "real estate" to plan for?
2. What is the best way to attach the pedals? Velcro?
3. Best way to wire the pedals up to the switcher? George L's? Other?
4. Anything else I need to consider?

Thanks in advance for any advice

1. Yes. Yes, usually.
2. 3M Dual Lock
3. There are lots of good cables out there. Mogami, Canare, etc.
4. Map out your routes carefully. Measure four times, cut once. Use a string or something similar to help you find the length you need.

neutrik ends on the cables. dont forget real-estate for pedal power and also routing for AC lines on the opposing side of the rack as your signal cables.

2U isn't enough space for a sliding shelf and some pedals... assume you really need 3u hight in the rack.
Custom length cables are great -- George L's work very well for that. But if you could buy some standard length, short cables they're less hassle.
Check out the RJM Music Technologies Effect Gizmo for your pedal loops, or even better, get the RG-16 and it can also do all the channel and function switching on your head. Here's an in-depth review:

2u is enough for most standard sized pedals. Reverse the tray if you need more space.

The Effect Gizmo will also do channel and function switching on your head, but only if your head uses 1/4" footswitch jacks

I switched mesas and my 5150 with one and it worked great :thu:

1. Two spaces works fine. This tray works great: https://cgi.ebay.com/1U-19-SLIDING-RACK- ... 588a769920

2. As stated earlier, use 3M Dual Lock. Buy it from this guy. I have bought hundreds of pieces from him, he lives near me, and he is the cheapest around. https://cgi.ebay.com/Dual-Lock-/16050459 ... 255ed1b43a

3. MAKE YOUR OWN CABLES. Will be cheaper and better quality. I use this going into the pedals http://best-tronics.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... gory_Code=
and this going into the switcher http://best-tronics.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... gory_Code=
and this cable http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=506

4. Advise: lay the pedals in the tray and measure each cable with the tray in the "out" position. Leave room for more pedals in the future.

+1 on the Dual Lock by 3M. I use the clear one. It has a 2-3 Ibs of holding power. I use half inch squares on all corners and it holds really good. This stuff is great because you can take it off the pedal tray and the pedal without pulling paint. This great if you ever want to sell.

Find Zachman. He knows some good stuff about rack-mounting pedals.

Thanks again all. Picked up my pedal power supply...still deciding on the rest.
