Spent the afternoon experimenting with tubes, hadn't done this in years. I used to looove my Peters Gryphon with 6550 tubes. Sold it to fund a triple FSM/Vega/Halo, been playing it on and off with the el34's and liked it a lot, but....... Was missing that bite and throatiness i loved so much about my previous Peters. Put the 6550 tubes in, biased to about 80 and bam, my beloved tone is back!!!!!!

Cleans are now stellar with huuuge headroom. Vega now has a tightness it lacked, and is very articulate. More of everything.

FSM is just BRUTAL and TIGHT. Again with awesome articulation and note definition. Love it.

It has become my favorite amp again, just killer.

-Always wanted to try a PETER's-

Well, for my likings of heavy tight ass tones, this is it. Started at around 72 and it was good, but it had a little bit of harshness, cardboardy snap, bumped it up to around 80 and bam, it was perfect.

Wait till you hear the clean too!!!!!!

Yup, why sacrifice tone!!!!!!!

We pay big bucks four our expensive tone generating amps, dont ya go pussying on tube abuse, they where made to be abused, especially those big boobs......toobs i mean.........

UM.... the Peters external bias is measured per pair, so I think he's saying 40ma/tube, but whatever....

Anyway, I have a Peter's FSM / Vega that I've been running with JJ KT77's to get a little more aggression. When I saw this post yesterday, I went and checked the tube stash. Lo and behold there was a quad of Tung-Sol 6550's sitting there, so in they went!! Early returns look good, but it was late and couldn't really crank the amp. Will know more later today.

I'm kinda new to the Peter's club, but my FSM /Vega is quickly becoming one of my favourite amps. The articulation and note definition are incredible with this amp and no matter how much gain you dial in the amp stays tight. Really impressive amp. Also, really impressed with the build quality! Massive transformers, high quality resistors and caps hand-wired on an eyelet board. James does nice work.
I own / have owned just about all the usual suspects in high end amps, and the Peters is right there with all of them. Highly recommended.

I love 6550 in my GNL. I'll have to try with your biased values. Thanks for sharing!

Mine is a single channel FSM. I don't need a clean channel.

I agree about James Peters build quality. Heavy duty,no BS,super solid looking inside. Everything looks almost elegant inside and out. This FSM is my third Peters...would love to try a Bodyhammer next.

Alright, I was cranking the amps today, and all I gotta say about the 6550's in the FSM / Vega is:

They have the aggression of the KT77's, and the mids of EL34's = win / win baby!!!!
I have 'em biased around 90ma per pair.
Thanks for the idea Mr. 7 Stringer

Bonus pic: The FSM / Vega is on the left under the SLO. Do any of you Peters guys know what amp that is on top of the BE100? :D

Any clips of the Bodyhammer? I can only find 1 on the internet

I'm glad you guys like the amps! :) Thanks for the compliments!

No clips of the new designs yet, unless some owners have made them (and there aren't many owners of the new amps so far). I plan to record soon. I've been bogged down since I had to move, again (ugh!) right after releasing info about the new designs. At least now I won't have to move for as long as I want, since I finally own a house and am no longer renting/subject to the whims of a landlord.

I also created more work for myself by adding a new feature to the Body Hammer: a switch that makes the voicing more "old school". Prepare to sell off your modded Marshalls (and/or amps based on them)! Can't wait to try this voicing switching thingy for the Firejack too.

Glad you like it man, i sure as hell was happy when i cranked it up after putting in those big bottles!!!!!!! So much fun having the chance to put in all kinds of tubes and having that ext bias, a brease to swap. I have a couple sets of 88's as backups for my UL, might try those at some point. But the 6550 is such a great balance between the 6l6, el 34 and the kt 88, i think they are perfect, for me at least.

Man, that Bodyhammer!!!!!! I would so love to try one, i am such a huge fan of Dino's tone on Demanufatcure......and every other album........ Would be very curious to test ride one!!!!

How does it compare with the FSM? And how is the clean? If you have one on it of course.

James mentioned at some point the clean was chaged a bit due to the new circuit design.

Thanks

Chris

You should do it man, would be very interesting as there is not a lot of info about it yet.

Do you have a better close up pic of it ? Looks mean
