Raised my action and wow!

If ya gotta work for it a bit the tone will be there! Too low and ya just can't dig in.

+1 on this whole thread! I used to play 9s, have really low action and keep my pickups right next to my strings. Now on my Les Paul tuned to Eb I have 11-54 strings, raise the action to a little lower than most acoustics, and have the pickups fairly lower. Best improvement I could have made!! It takes some getting used to, and man my fingers hurt for a while, but it's really worth it.

That is WEIRD! The other day, I was playing through my tube amp and I went to go adjust the mids and accidentally turned the volume up. It actually sounded better that way. I was shocked to say the least.

Ok, enough sarcasm.

That kind of brightness/sizzle from low action or whatever you want to call it is really just the string dieing out before it can make a full clear tone. I usually set a guitar at 3/32-2/32 and then tweak it down till I find a happy medium.

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. Was going for the gain knob and accidentally turned up mids. Same kind of improvement!

I tried this. Lowered the pups on my strat a bit, tweaked up the action, put on new strings, .10 E. Started working on Texas Flood..... Aw sookie!!! SLO was just barely on that little edge of breakup and guitar volume on 8.....easing it on up as the water got deeper. I remembered why I love this guitar AND this amp so much.

Will have to do this to my Ibanez Sabre. Chronic thin syndrome. Probably related to the .09 E and ultra low shred action.

the action on my crappy rhodes v is set fairly high. i've got bill and becky l 500's in it. the high action really makes each string sound out.. though it's harder to play.
