I believe ya, Jeff :D
I have an RD50 combo, and scary to say, it's probably the best sounding amp (to my ears) I've owned.
Hooked up to a 4x12, it is monstrous, and on its own, it's just a great little combo.
It reminds me of a Mesa mk series in size and ability to peel the paint off the walls.

Mike Fortin is a genious.

Ya its a special amp! The 100 watter doesn't have the same vibe. The gain channel without the boost is way to loose for me but with it engaged wow!

I totally agree. I dig the 100 water but the 45 is special. It seriously is the best sounding $599 amp I have ever heard. Boost engaged is a must for me as well!

Got a RD45 too, seems we are severals to dig the boosted tone, but not the unboosted one, that is really loose...

Would Mike F had a mod or a trick to share to get he unboosted tighter, without touching the sound of the boosted one? :worship:

Got text off to Mike asking that question!

On my rd50 I really liked a clean boost (BB+) going in to the unboosted setting

Does the boost increase volume, or just saturation? And is it variable or pre set?

SAturation and it is not variable! Seems to me to be just the right amount!

Yes boost engaged is perfect tight and saturation

Have to try the unboosted mode with my Timmy, alone it is really loose :aww:

Timmy in the unboosted mode is my way to make it usable
Tried it quickly at super low volume, i'll check and report a normal volume....

So for lower gain tones (800 territory) this amp would not cut it then correct?

So, I picked up a RD40 combo today.

I assume it's pretty much the same as the 45 for the most part just with reverb and no direct out. It can certainly be dialed in for less gainy tones but you have to really bump the mids. It also seems to help to have a higher output / mid heavy pickup or a boost. My PRS 59/09 equipped guitars definitly thin out a lot with the gain low. My Tremonti and EVH pickups sound fine with it. The onboard boost almost adds too much gain for 70s or 80s gain tones if you have it at or below noon. My KoKo boost seems to be a better fit for thickening up that tone. In order to EQ the amp for better higher gain tones it would probably work best to just use a nice OD pedal on the clean for crunch tones. At any rate, I got the as new combo for a little over 400 so it will do for my needs.
