Hey everyone, first post! I've been reading lots of threads here for a few days about the Randall diavlo line of amps and I think I'm about ready to commit on one of these beasts. The one question I haven't seen addressed either in a thread or a video is whether this amp is capable of doing the smooth, fluid, singing lead type of thing similar to a mark style tone or a John Petrucci kind of tone. I was able to tweak a 5153 to get a smooth, fluid lead tone and I know other high gain amps like the SLO were actually used for this. Anyway, just curious if it can pull that off before I make a decision. :)

I received a pm and unfortunately I haven't been a member here long enough to be able to respond or send messages so I won't be able to respond to you there. Any help or insight with the original question though would be greatly appreciated. :)

I owned the head for awhile and I felt like I needed an EQ in the loop to open it up and a boost for that lead tone your after, dark sounding amp overall so that's either good or bad depending what kind of music you play, I dug it but I grabbed the 5153 50watt and I never touched it again so it went...

Dark is excellent! Can't stand bright amps. Thank you for the insight. :)

someone's got one of these on CL near me for $245. Was wondering if I should snag it. I also like dark sounding amps.

You guys think it's worth it?

I would totally grab an RD45h for that price. And I don't even play tube amps anymore!

I had an RD45 stack and it was great. If you love the Fortin grind, you'll get it from the Diavlo series.
