Know a fairly local guy that will sell me his RM100 with Clean, Plexi and XTC modules for $400. This is my stash of cash waiting to purchase one of the new Fortin Randall Diavlos. Problem is they are not available yet and I'm kind of just curious. I tend to like Marshall/Modded Marshall type tones. I like tight and percussive. I'd have to drive about 30 miles(I'm a lazy bastard) to try it out. Should I even bother going to check it out based on the types of tones I prefer? Never played a real XTC and I don't have any idea how close the module is to the real thing. This would just kind of be something to play around with for a couple of weeks and then sell it. Opinions????

buy it and sell it to me for $500 if you don't like it. Each mod sells for between $100-$125. The RM100's sell for about $500 shipped. Its a stupid good deal!

it's a good deal. worth trying out. I have both RM100 and RM50. The cool thing is you can buy modules or have them modded to fit your own tonal quest.
The XTC sounds nothing like the real thing, none of the modules do. They are only an approximation of the real thing, BUT they do have a great tone of their own.
My modded modules are the best sounding ones. If you do buy it, go to the Randall MTS forum, there's tons of info you can get on these amps there.

RM100 weighs like 200# (exaggerating, but it weghs A LOT).

EDIT: I realized this didn't really give my opinion. I have an RM100 (modded by Bruce for dual channel modules) and a couple other pieces of modular equipment. I approve of this purchase.

Definitely buy it! Send the modules to Rob at Jaded Faith for some modding and be prepared for an extremely versatile amp!

Definitely a good deal! I have the RM50HP with Clean and XTC. The Clean module is fantastic! Can be super clean or pushed, and has an amazing presence and thump to it. The XTC is really good as well stock. Somewhat Bogner'ish, but definitely it's own thing. I know some guys have said the lead tone isn't great on it, but I beg to differ.

Well like I said, I'm lazy but I figure I'll go check it out. If I don't like it no big loss. Any common issues with these things? It's loaded with 6L6s.

Bubba, do you even like Bloodhound Gang, or are you just sadistic?

Great amps. Don't quite live up to the amp they replicate 100% (for me they lack the girth - and i don't mean bass, i mean thickness overall) but they are 85% and sound good for what they are. The XTC and Plexi are good stockers. That is ridiculous considering unloaded 450$ is still a good price for a tube amp. You could easily have a fun gig amp with the plexi module. Just the watch presence/density board values as the older ones are off slightly so if your amp is too dark then check that.

I had one for a little over a year. Great clean tones! It was the most noisy highgainer I've had. It also did not feel like a real all tube amp imo. Mine had some reliability issues, which is why it had to go. I have seen some stupid good deals on them, but I am through with them for good. Went back to real amps, and couldn't be happier!

At that price...why not?

I have been generally underwhelmed by most of the stock models though, especially the XTC but modded modules are a money pit you might not want to get into.

AT that price however, you could probably sell the RM100 and modules and come out on top to the tune of $300 even after shipping expenses.

Here is a small clip of some stock mods. Please excuse the fact that I know nothing about properly recording.

A short clip of a Jaded Faith Mod...

Plenty of common issues. Midi board fuse blows if cable not plugged in before turning on, some had issues with arcing on the power tube boards, fuses tend to blow and are a PITA to get to, module seating to make complete contact can sometimes cause funky issues and there are probably more. Great deal on that unit though with the modules. Just be sure and test it. I have a love/hate with them.

I would have to agree with everyone else...this is an incredible deal! Worst case scenario, sell it on here. Looks like you already have offers :D

The $500 would just be for shipping. This thing is heavy.

The modded modules sound pretty damn good but I don't want to dive into that money pit.

Well I've been playing it for the last hour with a V30 4x12, a GK-85 4x12 and both together. It's not noisy, seems to work fine, is loud as hell and sounds pretty good. The Clean module is very nice. Very clean and loud or pushed. Not used to having a dedicated clean channel and honestly don't need one. The XTC module is cool. I really prefer it with the gain just below noon. Above that and it's just not tight enough for me. The Plexi modules is VERY cool. I can play it as is or throw my Green Screamer in front for some....well, boosted Marshall goodness. I'd be happy with just the Plexi module. I will say the amp sounds better (to me) with my higher output pickup(17K) and tuned to drop D than it does with my lower output PU tuned to way down to A#. Or at least that is mainly with the XTC module. I bet some of the modded Marshall type modules would sound very sweet.
I've already decided I'm not keeping it. I'll play with it for as long as I have it. It's cool but I don't need all that it has to offer. Also, I have yet to play an amp that fits me better than my Fortin mod.
