Never thought I would get one of these as I hated the DSL401 and don't like the Asian DSL head either but jammed on a DSL40C today and was pretty impressed. It's not very good as a channel switcher but for home use it had quite the variety of Marshall tones on board. Really dug how when the Ultra gain channel is up it sounds like a fuzz, but a useable fuzz. I had read years ago that Fu Manchu started using DSL heads live because they had their sound in the box and sure as shit it's pretty accurate. Dial the gain back to 10' Oclock or less and spanky, hard rock goodness is there. Very Bright but Treble and Presence set very low did the trick. Speaker swap might also help.
I Like that they did a resonance knob as opposed to a fixed value like on the older heads. Decided to jump on some Black Friday discount, plus No interest promo shenanigans. Also ordered a cab grabber for micing up. Anyone using one? Any good? I might be on a cheap import roll as I played a Bugera Trirec lately and thought it was pretty awesome in the recto vein. I certainly thought it was better, plug straight in, no pedal option than an actual Recto.
This will be the first new Marshall I have bought since 1996. I got new because I wanted the warranty (not familiar with Asian Marshall quality) and it was the only way to get the sexy cream tolex with the old school grill. I haven't been looking for a Marshall lately but I guess it was looking for me!
*EDIT*
It landed tonight! Real quick out of the box noodle with my Junior. Pretty happy with it.
