I like it.
Plus cmon the originals are Perfection so these guys spinning a different way in tribute is Very Much in the spirit of Randy Rhoads.
Plus the equally talented Kelle Rhoads on Mr. Crowley .............

RIP

I like kelle's vocals on killer girls but the whole albums is just fucking hideous...ripper owens is terrible (as usual). If this sells even 1 copy i'd be surprised

Wow I am one song in and am amazed at how shitty Crazy Train sounds... no life, puny rythm, terrible vocals and vocal arrangement, and the drums? What is going on with that drumming? That's Appice? He's shit here (and in fact on a lot of stuff, not one of my fave drummers that is for sure)

Frankie Banali should have done this whole album. So much better of a drummer who isn't worried about standing out and putting his timing signature on everything like Appice. God that drives me nuts.

Owens sucks. Bottom line.

Ok , listened to whole thing and a lot of the lead tones sound like they were recorded on a POD and sent to the producers to throw over the song. Horrible. This is a terrible tribute album. I give props to Laiho and Hoekstra who had the best solos. They took the time to write something rather than jam on something ( Gillis ) Lynch? As usual, on anything but Lynch, is bad. His choice of notes just don't work and he was equally bad on the Rush tribute album that was released (Working Man) over 15 years ago.. When it comes to Randy, just leave it alone. Sounded like there were a few doubled solos which was cool but everyone else sounds naked when just laying one wanking lead guitar down the center.

Completely agree. And yeah Laiho's was definitely the best solo, don't remember Hoekstra's will have to go back and listen. Nearly everyone got their guitar tone wrong for this, and Morello's solo was a joke. The vocals were across the board pretty bad; I didn't give the album a thorough listen, but if I did, I doubt it would change my mind.

Overall, I'd give it maybe a 4 out of 10 at best.

I thought it was awful. The over all production is just dull.
Kapo's right, the guitar tones were terrible. Bernie Torme's solo sounded like it was played over the phone.
As far as the playing goes, I think Alexi Laiho got it right. You don't have to play it note for note, but leave in the memorable parts and put your own stamp on it here and there.
Seriously, WTF was George Lynch playing????
Maybe I'm too critical being a huge Randy fan. I think it could have been done better.

Bernie Torme's solo sounded like it was played over the phone.    Awesome.

I thought the Gus G. solo was pretty shredding on 'Goodbye To Romance', of course playing with Ozzy gives him the advantage of being familiar with the song

Why these guys feel the need to completely change the solo is beyond me.. the whole point is a Tribute, not a wank fest over a backing track. Nobody else annoyed by Appice's drumming? Just the way he plays the snare in the beats, man it drives me crazy. I also hear a lot of that on the later stuff he did with Dio. Just play a straight rock beat man, no need for your lousy fills or snare variety. That and Owens.. garbagge in, garbagge out.

Yikes! I am not going top waste my time then, since there is an overwhelmingly similar tone to the feedback. Here's the deal, tribute projects are fun as shit! Hell, you all KNOW I am posting covers all the time. i just think there is a certain amount of respect due when covering iconic songs. Randy was an innovator. If you want to fiddle around a bit and put your spin on his leads that is cool but I consider it almost blasphemous to "have your way" with someone's creative vision unless why you are doing is mind-blowingly cool.

OK, made a liar of myself. Went and listed. The first 2 tracks, IMHO are incredibly disrespectful. Seems like everyone was given a tempo (bpm) and told to record in the DAW of their choice. Then it was put together by an engineer. It would have been nice to at least get the drum tracks sent out to each "team" so the band felt like they were playing the same damn song. I also agree Alexi was a standout. Why … he kept the format nice and close and shredded tastefully. It also sounds like something Randy might have done live had he been around for our generation of shredding.

Al, I'd rather hear YOU play most of this than what was on that album!

I haven't heard this and from what every one says, I don't want to. From Appice's drumming, I just saw him with Craig Goldie (touring Dio stuff, but not Goldie's Dio stuff-weird). Anyway, I for one love his style, it's like he's so behind the beat, he catches it again. Like mid way through the fill, he forgets what he's doing and just stops and comes back in on the one. Somehow for me, it works, but probably not in this context as it isn't an original.

Appice is a douche...him and his brother can't even agree on how to pronounce their last name

Damn it! I thought this thread was going to be Al Estrada ripping some Rhoads stuff. Not even going to click on that link. ;)

Haha maybe next time! I use to love playing Randy's stuff, I got to play a tribute show many years ago to benefit Randy's scholarship fund at The Palace in Hollywood, Rudy Sarzo was in charge of it, I got to play 'Revelation' and 'Steal Away' and we even did 'You Lookin' At Me' an obscure Ozzy B-side. I just thought some people here on this forum would want to check out this new tribute Cd..

yup we did.. and then in true Rig talk fashion, we shit all over it   Doesn't take a genius producer to listen back to this one and say "boy, this REALLY sucks" What was that line in Tommy Boy? " I can stick a sticker on a box that says guarantee but at the end of the day you are still left with a pile of shit"..something like that. lol
