I love jazz. Been listening to big bands, combos and all sorts of it my entire life.

What I cannot stand, however, is jazz guitar. It is horrible. I can't listen for more than a couple minutes. :aww:

Big band can be pretty bad ass. Amazing horn arrangements. I've got some live Dean Martin and it just kills on the dynamics and power of the band.

I grew up with jazz as my father is a piano player obsessed with Bill Evans and I did my b.mus, so plenty of jazz. That said... yes I agree that for the most part guys that identify as jazz guitarists first typically don't have a clue when it comes to overdrive tones. Even really successful ones. Listening to jazz guys play rock? Almost always SUCKS. But typically listening to rock guys try and play jazz sucks just as bad if not worse though ;)

Trioscapes, experimental heavy jazz, no guitar:

1:50 is sick

John Scofield is baddass for jazz funk, btw. Kind of Blue is sick too.

yikes, I just started seriously woodshedding some jazz... hope my tone doesn't start to suck!

I hear ya, it goes both ways for me. I hate hearing hi gain clips of a dude playin rehashed boogie woogie pentatonic blues licks or the standard VH or Ratt dropped D rhythm licks. What really annoys me is talking....sometimes have to scrub through 30-60 seconds of chatter before the dude/dudette plays a single note. ;)

Don't care for Jazz guitar tone either. It typically sounds muted, muddy, and lifeless. Give me a Stratocaster neck pickup with some reverb and delay into a clean amp. For me to listen to a Jazz guitarist, he or she needs to be on the fusion spectrum.

Why in the world would you think a jazz guy would have an ear and taste for gain?

Clips are useless anyway. I play a 5153 50 watter and the majority of clips are of metal music I don't play and that didnt stop me from trying the amp and finding that it fits my style quite well.

Look i grew up with one hell of a jazz guitarist. He can play his ass off. They just dont get high gain

Lol. This is sometimes true, but some Jazz Guys are really scary and can play almost anything and do have

good singing Gain Tones up to 80s Metal..

I hate when Metal Guys Demo Amps with just Super High Gain detuned Chug and dark evil riffs with squeely
harmonics....lol .

I realize Modern Metal Players have serious Skills and timing , I just want to hear clean , crunch, pushed cleans and some long notes and chords too and they have the ability...

Now a straight ahead Jazz Guy with no Vibrato and no idea of Gain- yeah that would be silly if he was demoing a JVM 410 lol.

Or an ENGL... that would be a cool Video.

I realize this works both ways. But some jazz dude demoing a Suhr Modern for high gain tones seems to typically be a wreck
