On the one hand, I should be happy that kids that age are still drawn to this type of music and still think it’s cool. But when the execution is at best 4.5 on a scale of 1 - 10, the superlative ‘dropped jaw’ comments are just insufferable.

I don’t want/need to see dick comments breaking the kid‘s spirit, but save the ’dropped jaw’ comments for the precious few videos out there that are on the level of the Yngwie medley that was posted here recently. THAT is jaw-dropping.

Its sort of like seeing some kid in PE class sink 1 free-throw in 7 tries and commenting: “THE NEXT MICHAEL JORDAN!!!!!!”

I think it's great that kids are trying this stuff. A little encouragement goes a long way.

On the other hand, I'm tired of the videos of people who get a 100% perfect to the recording solo where they did 100 takes of each segment, 10 notes at a time, then cover it with camera jumps to make it look like they played it all just off the cuff. I'm not going to name anyone because it comes across as salty but some of the most viewed and popular guitar videos on youtube are exactly like this, and since they are so popular it draws comments from non-guitar players who are just totally amazed. Then those same non-guitar players are surprised when guitarists in real life can't pull that off - even the guy they watched on youtube can't pull it off without the editing magic, but they don't understand that.

I have yet to ever see Eruption done truly note for note , it's always missing something even when done by famous guitar players but you're right there are shit tons of idiots out there that constantly praise shoddy work .

It was Templeman who just by chance heard Eddie warming up before a show and decided to put it on the record , Eddie admitted he screwed it up but left it on the album anyway lol.

The only solution to your problem is to simply avoid those video's or comment sections because it's not going to change . Don't waste time on things you have no control over.
 
Seriously the hyperbole is something I’ve noticed about gen Z and younger millenials for a while. They act like every mediocre thing is amazing and the best thing ever and I’m certain they don’t actually believe it, it’s a weird put on. It’s kind of like the more forgettable and shitty everything becomes the more they pretend its better than ever. The problem is they forget about the current “amazing” thing very quickly.

My number one pet peeve with youtube guitar videos is OUT OF TUNE GUITARS.
 
I used to record videos of myself jamming to a song or stuff I wrote years ago. I wanted to do this again not too long ago and decided not to for this very reason.

I don’t want to do follow the herd mentality and be a part of that. Too many channels of great lead players, play a solo note for note, which does not do anything for me as a player.

I’ll find another way to get the led out.

You should do it man! You're one of the few players I know that use the D through high E strings when you play :D
