Really bad veneer job on les paul

Picked this up cheap and was under the impression it was just a bad refin but....it's a terrible veneer job....A refin is in order..

It's a real gibson and from what I was "told" it started life as a goldtop in 1991....no that was not a factory veneer...just a really bad garage job!!
