Really starting to dislike my 5150. Help :(

believe it or not my fav. tubes in the 5150 sig is sovtech wb's they sound really aggressive and to me in that amp eat up ruby, jj, mesa, and tung sols, and thats pre's and power. plus they were prob one of the cheapest sets I baught for it. go figure...and imo you can't touch v30's for the peavey. absolutely made the peavey sound great...even my 212 roadster sounds huge with a peavey...

also, how long for one of these amps (early 90's) till it'd need a re-cap job?
 
MXR 10 Band EQ in the loop. I had the same issue. I discovered it's just something about the mid range character that gets annoying after a while. I have the same issue with Marshalls too. Use the EQ to shape the mids a bit differently and you're golden.
 
it does only have that "one tone" but it's a fuckin sweet tone.
