Hi guys,
I'm wondering what do you guys use for reamping?
I'm using a Scarlett 6i6 and a Palmer Daccapo for reamping, but the additional noise in the reamped tracks bothers me. Already using a DI box From Radial for the input.

I also borrowed a RME Fireface UCX from a friend. Went guitar -> Inst Input on the UCX -> out into Palmer Daccapo -> amp.
There is still less gain/bass in the reamped tracks, altough I cranked the volume on the Daccapo and it's already pretty loud in the DAW. Output is set to +4dBu on the Fireface and the Daccapo. Already used the ground lift, helped, but there is still some inconsistent buzzing coming through. The Fireface is a pretty expensive device, maybe I'm the problem?
I can't use the high gain option for the UCX output, the hiss becomes crazy loud.

Seems like people are reamping with a lot cheaper units, how much more noise do you get? How much more is normal?
Especially when dialing back the volume pot on the guitar, the additional white noise can be heard even when playing? I wonder how much of this is also in professional records from 20-30 years ago and can't be heard in the mix anyway.. maybe I'm just obsessing over this.

Any tipps? Do you guys just all use noise gates? Should I buy a Little Labs Redeye 3D Phantom to resolve the issue? If I upgrade to an UCX and Redeye I can just as well buy a Kemper and not have to deal with this stuff ^^

Thanks :)

I said f_ck it to reamping because it wasn't necessarily noise for me, it was the signal. It just seemed "off". I have a good radial unit and was using a good DI as well. For some reason, there seemed to be more splatty breakup in the reamp tone (your noise?). I did have some buzzing but ground lift in the unit took care of that. When I A/B'd the live amp to the reamp, the live amp kept winning. I recorded both and had my gf pick and even she picked the live amp vs reamp. Now it may be great for lead playing or in a mix but for me dicking around back and forth and trying to make it sound like what i wanted to hear, it just wasn't cutting it. Same as you, too much bass, not enough bass ..never just right! Some people have mentioned before that it may be the converters in my audio interface. I can see where that might be the case. This is often overlooked by bedroom reampers but is very important. Sorry I can't be of that much help here... I feel your pain.

Id say get the redeye..I have it and there is zero noise and the signal can be adjusted to taste...works great imo

I use the original REAMP box and I just adjust the TRIM pot on it so that when I feed a track to my amp through the REAMP box, the signal matches identically to my guitar signal straight into the amp. I just go back and forth between the guitar I recorded the track with straight into the amp and the REAMP box signal and adjust the TRIM pot until they are identical. Easy to do and I get ZERO and I mean ZERO noise with this rig...

I've read about USB grounding being shitty and causing problems. I'm sorry I don't have a specific suggestion. Maybe a different port or a hub? Google.

Be careful of your proximity to the computer to the guitar. The fans can cause some serious racket.

The Palmer is considered to be one of the better passives. I have the passive Radial. I took out some voltage divider resistors at the XLR output and that brought the signal up to where it should be. I found that mod at the Andy Sneap forum.

I don't reamp a lot, but had mine going pretty transparently. I did like to use the computer as a boost pedal with plug ins and finding the sweet spot level wise. A little eq and compression can maybe put you where you need to be.

i used a palmer box, small blue one. I didnt have any noise issues. Maybe a cable or some magnetic interferance.

Yeah I figured the Palmer Daccapo was pretty well regarded.
Well I think I found the solution for me!

I got it to work fine on the Fireface UCX.
I went guitar-> Instr in on the UCX (set to lo gain and inst on, gain on 0) -> Out of the UCX (set to -10dBV, gain 6 dB) -> Palmer Daccapo (set to -10 dBV, level cranked)

Seems like the Daccapo works bettwer with the -10 dBV Level, than +4 dBu, couldn't get it to work without noise like this.

Thanks for your tipps, looks like i just need to buy a FF UCX, the Palmer wasn't the problem, nor do I need a DI, the instr. input on the FF works great.

Cheers :)
