I have had the Rebel 20 head 3 years and all the 12ax7 tubes did not get the tone i wanted.

Frankly the sound was shrill with highs and hateful and offended my senses .

3 years later i put a RCA 12ax7a long Black plate tube in the OD socket and what a great tone it has now !

I have been liking my Rebel 30 head so i gave up on the 20 head for awhile.

The RCA 12ax7 blk plate does color the tone , but in a wonderful way i did not expect.

So the genaric cheap 12ax7 tubes that come stock may sound steril or blah so there are great options there.!

Each tube change changes the amp tone a bunch .

The Train Wreck amp demo had a NOS mullard 12ax7 and followed by a Amperex bugle boy 12ax7 and it sounded awesome and should.

Do you think a couple of JJ tesla 12ax7 tubes will get you there ?

My rebel 20 now sounds similar to a Train Wreck than a stock harsh fizzy sounding tone it had stock.

I new amp is there just tring tubes out , i all most gave up on the rebel 20 for my tone .

The small wattage amps have it when you crank it up , you can not hit the sweet spot on 100 watt amp in a club or hardly anywhere.

Power tube beginning to breakup is the cherry on top , nothing can be as harmonic as that !

But i did get the pre amp overdrive tone i luv !
