Got an AC30 head inbound and don't want to spend 1K just for a matching 2x12 with blues. I know of Avatar and Mojo, any other companies to look at? Preferably they sell empties so I can put speakers of my own choice in them. Plus if they offer remove-able back pieces or have hinged backs that would be a huge plus. Thinking I'll put in a Celestion/simliar Alnico and a Jensen type speaker.

Bogner or Port City.... Oh, and/or Southbay amp works (scumback), Friedman.

I don't think Bogner would sell an empty. I'll have to look into the others but I imagine they're expensive.

So far the mojo British 2x12 extension cab for the 18 watt is looking pretty good. I like that it has similar dimensions to a Vox 2x12 or Fender. Definitely looking for an old school vibe and don't need a super deep or modern 2x12 where it's trying to be as beefy as a 4x12.

The Avatar Signature series looks good but it's too deep. They're doing a pretty good deal on that with 2 Heritage Celestions for $550 + shipping

Actually this Avatar looks good and it's Dimensions are similar to the Mojo

Splawn 212's with the right speaker choice are Really good!!

I purchased an empty Bogner Goldfinger cab from Brad (King Guitar). It's a custom order and takes a couple weeks, but it can be done.

I've had the following 2x12s, all with Greenback and V30 variants:

-Bogner OS closed back (great cab)
-Bogner OS semi-open back (I liked this one better than the closed back)
-Port City Wave OS (had some good projection, but still directional to me when I was on stage)
-Mesa (surprisingly incredible punch for a smaller cab when compared to OS's)
-Marshall 1936 (not bad, but mine was from the late 90's)
-Splawn (this was the most disappointing, but I have to believe mine was an outlier. There was a rattle it at higher volume and bass levels that my Bogner was handling just fine).

I now have a Forte S/V and this cab (along with my homemade vertical semi-open back) ended my 2x12 search. I have a Scumback H55 on the bottom and BH75 on the top.

Another vote for Splawn. Most Splawn 2x12 cabs sound like 4x12 cabs.

I already have a 4x12. I'm not looking to emulate one with a 2x12. Actually the opposite. Going for a very traditional semi-open back 2x12 sound. Want to use it for my incoming Vox and some possible Tweed amps in the future. Also as a different flavor for the higher gain heads I have now. This is solely for recording and jamming at home, so will never be all that loud.

Amplified Nation in Boston. Great builder and very reasonable. Avatar is cheapest in my experience, but I prefer AN!!
