I recommend you stay away from them. :D

From what? DiMarzios?

Yeah, I hate them. They're on par with stock Ibanez pickups IMO.

Maybe you need to spend more then 3 days with a guitar that has them before you judge

Comical, but I have. They suck.

Which pickups have you tried? Plenty of guys seem to get killer tone with them...

If Amott used a DiMarzio pickup, he'd love them to death.

Um, not at all. He's playing Randall and Dean shit now, neither of which I've ever cared about, nor plan to care about.

Tone Zone, Air Zone, Air Norton, Super Distortion, Megadrive, Evo, Blaze, and some others. Didn't like any of them.

Well pretty much all of those are really hot pickups, maybe some of the lower output ones would be worth a try?

Too many other great pickups out there for me to care. I could name a dozen other pickup makers that I think sound infinitely better than DiMarzios.

But I would think that a reasonable person probably wouldnt listen given that you are dismissing an entire company based only on a handful of super hot pickups.

Just get whatever Petrucci uses. Or used to use...
You are a fanboy after all.

Where does this fanatical dislike of DiMarzio come from? It's only a pickup manufacturer. :)

Hehe... I like Dream Theater, but I wouldn't go that far, buddy. :)

I feel the same way too man. The only Dimarzio i ever enjoyed was the HS-3 stacked single. That thing kills, but i dont really like any of their other pickups in their entire catalogue.

For me.. Anderson pickups = total win.

I don't see the point in trying more of their pickups when I've played a good number of them and hated all of them?

What did you try them in??

I replaced my stock Wolfgang pups with Tone Zone / Air Zone, and they're awesome. I tried a couple of other DiMarzio models that didn't do it for me, and DiMarzio was super nice about exchanging them until I was happy. (That's their warranty)
So I'm thinking maybe it's the guitar? Was it one of the Ibanezes that you say sound like crap no matter what? Was it the "dead sounding" Warmoth you built?
Maybe with the body wood / neck / pickup combo you just couldn't hit the right formula?
Just kinda surprised you would single out a manufacturer and throw their entire product line under the bus. Especially because it seems like you're an economy minded guy, you drive a Taurus and generally like cheap stuff. That's not a slam, I like good value for the dollar myself, heck I've been subsidized by a Peavey dealer for years. Seems so unlike you.

Currently using EvoII in bridge and Humbucker From Hell in neck on my stage guitars (RG321's).

Have you used the regular Evo, and if you have, how does it compare to the Evo 2? I'm currently trying to decide between the two.

I've only a brief experience with the regular Evo (that's the one on the floral Jem, right?), and I thought it sounded pretty good. But obviously that's not enough info to know how it will go with my guitar.

NO.

Floral Jem has PAF Pro in bridge and neck positions.

The EVO has a LOT more gain and it's twice as bright as the PAF Pro.

The EVO can kick as with the right amp though. (Ecstacy, Legacy, Egnater TOL, etc)

The Humbucker from Hell is such an awesome neck pickup. It sounds just like a single coil but with a tad more "scream" to it for lack of a better term. The cleans have the most chime out of any neck pickup I've ever used.

Dimarzio is a company that just makes pickups that are "different" in some respect. They have the PAF copies and all that but I really feel like you can get some great original tones out of their stuff because they do stuff the other guys aren't doing.

Couple things, Dimarzios need a 500ohm pot to sound proper. I LOVE the ToneZone but at first I hated it. Turns out my volume pot was a 250 ohm and it did not sound correct at all. Now my TZ Jackson RR1 V is one of my favorite 80s tones. I also think that a lot of people wire them wrong but thats conjecture.
