I know the Fractal forum might be the best place for this but Im not a member on there. Maybe someone here can help me out.

.. Ok so, I bought an Axefx Standard v11 firmware... I will be using it for recording only. I have and Apogee Duet interface and I am running Logic Pro 9 on a Mac... So the issue so far is that when I plug the line out of the axefx into the interface and then play through my computer it sounds ok.... When I plug the axefx directly into my studio monitors it sounds really good.

I guess the issue is that Im not using the Digital Output on the back of the Axe, For whatever reason it doesnt work by just plugging into my interface..I guess something with the conversion rate ? How can I use the Digital I/O output, and record direct into my computer or interface.

Thanks !

Digital out is at 48k. Make sure your session is set to that rate and then select your appropriate routing to make it work. Your analog conversion should be fine really. that is how I am using my axe, analog right in, very little difference to me. Perhaps its a volume thing or some other thing, but as long as your interface is decent, which yours should be plenty fine, it should sound pretty much the same, not a night and day difference between taking the two outputs

There is a difference in volume, that may be what most of the problem is.. I would imagine that running digital straight from the axe instead of converting from analog to digital would be better ?..... I may be wrong or it may not be enough of a difference ... im going to experiment more...So if I run out of the xlr output labeled Digital I/O on the back of the axe direct into my interface it will work as long as the session is set to 24 bit ?

Thanks !

your digital output should be a coax cable, not an XLR, have your session set to 48k, not 44.1, lock your software and interface to your incoming digital spdif input, assuming your interface has that. Shouldn't be much of a difference at all in terms of sound quality from analog to digital out unless you are doing something wrong or have really really crappy gear... But keep in mind that yes, if you are listening to your unit directly through the speakers, then run it through the software and playback at lower volumes it won't sound as good. not to mention you won't be hearing your playing and strings in the room when you listen back. another big thing I have noticed that seems to make playback not what you are hearing in the room
