Thank you. Of the four IIC+ / ++ I've had honestly I think this little SR is the best. The DRG C++ did some amazing things, but I prefer playing pentode more than triode.

The V has a fat bottom end that I have to say none of my Mark II, III or IV had. I just picked it up & am looking forward to playing it with the band. That's the make or break point for me- they all sound good at home, but they don't all sound good in the live mix.

Fully agree!
I've had two blue & a red, and a buddy of mine has a purple though I've only heard it. Here's my take.LCW":13wvtpgl said:GJgo":13wvtpgl said:I've had three Mark IIIs in the past and have a number of vids of them. They are more aggressive & brash.
Awesome comparison man! Thanks for sharing!
Of the Mark IIIs... blue vs red vs purple... ? For high gain Metallica and thrash...
Cheers

- Blue is too damn harsh.
- Purple is Nirvana, but it's not Metallica.
- Red is the sweet spot but it'll still never be a IIC+.
- If I were to buy another one I'd look at a black with the 105 PT.
I prefer the Mark V in all 3 channels that you showed. Interestingly enough the clean too, sounds much fuller/wider, without any lack of sparkle, compared to the thinner clean sound of the Recto.GJgo":2gsprcex said:I did this last night and covered Crunch, but not boosted.

For me:
Triple sounded best
Mark 2c+ is a bad ass amp
Then the Multi
Didn't care for the Racto, in either of your vids
Great job![]()

Yeah, I get what you're saying.GJgo":wax114lb said:Cool. I prefer channels 1 & 2 on the V, but I prefer ch. 3 on the MultiWatt. Probably because the V is more middy which is right for cleans & crunch tones. For heavy red channel tones I like the more aggressive scoopy sound of the Recto. Total personal preference, they are both amazing amps.
The only thing the V and MW don't have is the feel & character of their vintage bretheren. To me this is a critical aspect when playing solo or recording, but it doesn't matter in the band mix. So then the question is, do all the extra features of the modern amps matter in the band mix? TBH probably not in my metal band. Probably yes in a variety band.
