After fifteen years of procrastinating I finally picked up a rectifier.

I scored a single rectifier solo fitfty loaded with 6l6.

I was always worried about the loose flabby bass people complained of so i opted for the brighter and tighter 50 watter.

I love his thing so much. It is a wonderful addition to my collection. Its sensitive interactive controls allow for a plethora of sounds available in each mode. The real surprise for me is how I think I may favor the vintage mode over the modern, I didn't think this would be the case but its feel and tone is so addictive.

The cleans are very useable despite the tons of internet posts that say otherwise. The pushed mode at max gain is a cool crunch sound every bit as good as the raw mode.

Should have gotten one sooner!

Any input on using el34 ?

Been running a 16 ohm cab as the manual says it is safe to mismatch. Should I consider going to 8 if I like the sound already? Mesa says their amps sound better at 8.

Congrats man!!
Now ship that Puppy out to FJA!!

Yeah they are GREAT amps!!

Congrats man! Three channel or two? Is it anything like the new multi-watt rectos?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I never really desired one for so many years, instead always focusing more on the Mark series. Also, didn't help always reading the backlash in the late 90's about them, in regard to the flabby bass featured in many of the poplular bands using them...and as you also said, the lack of good clean tones. But, in the last month, I really have started thinking about the idea of picking up a 50 watter as I've seen that they can be had for a mere grand or less. I have since heard tones from them within the last couple of years that I really liked. It really seems that they need to be tweaked right, in order to get the best out of them. Kind of like what Ty Tabor mentioned in that video that someone posted recently about his gear. He said with the DR, it took him sometime to find that sweet spot for Dogman. Your post makes me want one even more now!

the single rectos only come in 2 channels...not 100% on this but pretty sure I am right.

I think Rectifiers suffer from a lot of misunderstanding and user-error. I've lent mine out plenty of times before to see it returned with it dialled in like a Marshall... little treble, mids or presence and the bass knob up near max. Or, alternatively it'll come back with the T/M/B dialled in to 10/0/10.

Or, you get people that are so afraid of the Recto's 'scooped mids' reputation that they're afraid to turn the mids knob down and wonder why they can't get it to sound right.

Or, because they're often someone's first high gain amp they're hitting it with the shitty ass pickups that came in their Epiphone and blaming the amp for the mud and screech...

Anyway, I think they're great amps... you just have to accept them for what they are.

Well said. My Recto and Recto cab setup is all mids even though I have the mids knob at about 9:00. That's just the nature of the V30's. It annoys me when someone states that either the Recto or Recto cab are scooped sounding because they certainly are not. I never understood the logic there... a cab is made a little larger and all of a sudden the mid-focused speakers that are inside of it turn into low end and fizz drivers with no mid definition? Logic? Ears???

I forgot to mention that it sounds great for low volume playing.

The opinions out there about the rectos make me laugh some times. The rectos are the victims of "snobbish internet hubabaloo".
Flubish lowend? Do they realize how many metal recordings are out there featuring rectos? The Amp has knobs...turn them
No mids?  Do they realize there is a knob for that? Its called "Mid" and it DOES go past noon.

In fairness, I do sometimes wonder how many people plugged a Recto into a Marshall 1960 w/ G12Ts and simply assume that that's the way the Recto sounds....

It'll sound even better at stage volumes!

I love my Triple Recto. I thought I hated them for years, but once I got one home with a Tubescreamer, I can say there are not many amps I could imagine preferring...

I had 3 Dual Recs, I switched them to EL34's after having them awhile, and it was way better with them.
WAY better ;) I always wondered about the bias on them though, not because I thought anything was wrong, only because I know the odds of it being spot on for the particular set I was running was slim.
I liked the vintage voicing a lot too, I liked the modern voicing, but had to work with it a bit to dial out the fizzy stuff. Careful with the presence knob ;)
Congrats, try the 34's, you wont be sorry :D

yeah theyre alot of fun with an 808.

Congrats...great amp..love mine!

Seems like Rectifiers (mostly the Single) have had a resurgence in popularity here at RT since I bought mine. Good shit.

I stayed away from the Recto's for years as well. I picked up a new/old Triple Rec and am in LOVE. Are you kidding me? These things kill. Some of the best tone I've ever had.
Completely blew away all my perceptions of what a Recto sounds like. People sure know how to make them sound bad. Took me a good 15 minutes and I had it sounding killer.
GREAT amp.

There's also a generation thing going on. Check this out. 80's guys and their Marshalls pretty much hated everything and anything associated with the 90's. It put them out of work, stole the good gigs, the crowds, everything. When every new band was sportin a PRS and Recto you can see how some of the hate started. I knew that hated Recto's without even trying them.

Me, i have a love/hate thing with Rectos.

I'm 42, so I think I probably had some of that, but for me it really boiled down to I hated how people dialed them with too much low end along with the downtuning. Add to that most people dialed in waaay too much fizzy gain. So I never really spent any time with one. I associated that crappy tone with them, and then I got mine and eureka. It sounds killer.

Insightful post man.

Cool  Congrats, and glad you dig it.And like me i prefer the orange over the red,the red is bad, sounds to bright
and harsh. My latest DR doesn't have the red channel, only orange and clean.

im in the love hate thing with rectos. i love the lows and mids, no complaint there. but i hate the breakup on solo's on vintage mode which is my favorite setting. i like clean high gain leads that sing and sustain with no grit under them, definately nothing i could dial out of a single rec.

i thought about picking up a single recto or a roadster for rhythm work only, there are a plethora of tones that can be had out of them and there are ALOT of metal records that utilize recto-tones. they also blend well with other amplifiers in dual tracking. hell, half of leatherwolf's albums are rectifiers. the other half is modified marshall because of said rectifier being broken
