Recto boost that doesn't cut bass?

Need a boost for my Dual Rectifier that doesn't cut any bass. I had the TS808 mini but it took pretty much all the bass out.

Need a boost to tighten up the tone, while retaining or boosting the bass, and adding the high end that we expect from a boosted Rectifier.

Not looking to spend a ton of cash either, I'll be shopping used either way.

I've heard of people boosting a Recto with an EQ pedal. I've never done it but it might be something to look into.

Maybe a Metal Zone. Way more EQ options than usual TS and will sound evil.

Not to tell you your business but in my understanding tightening up your tone happens when you bump your mids and cut your low end going into the front of your amp. Once that's done you add bass back in with the amps tone controls. Just boosting low end going into the amp isn't going to tighten anything, rather you'll end up with a big fuzzy mess.

Yep. I agree with oblivion. If it doesn't cut bass, it doesn't tighten up the tone.

That being said, though, there are a couple of TS-style pedals that cut less bass than a standard Tube Screamer. Maxon OD-820 comes to mind.

Good question. The only boost I had that didn't cut bass was the mesa grid slammer. However, if did not add the high end that you want from a boosted recto, so I sold it. Maybe cutting the bass is what adds the high end? Who knows. I use now a maxon OD 808 and it works great. You can add the just turn the bass knob up. No biggie.

Oblivion and rex are right on.

If you don't cut bass into the amp (i.e. via a good overdrive/boost), you'll get flubby farty bass. Cut the bass in front and add it back with an EQ in the loop (if you must have it - a lot of guys realize that too much bass in a mix will just cancel into the bass player's frequency, but if you're playing on your own, I see why you'd want to get some bass back).

just my 2 cents.

Way Huge Green Rhino, it's a tube screamer with added controls for bass (100Hz) and mids (500Hz) so you can control how much bass it cuts or adds and the same for how much of a mid push it has. I've tried loads of screamer based pedals for boosting various mid and high gain amps and it's the only one that actually lets you fine tune those two key features of using a screamer style pedal as a boost.

Use something like a Way Huge Green Rhino, which is a tubesceamer, but has a bass control so you can dial in how much bass cut you want.....

Ding ding ding x1000 especially with a recto. Rule of thumb with these amps, as volume comes up bass must come down or it will be a big flubby mess. When I play at volume with a band my bass knob sits at about 9 o'clock.

Take a look at the Kollmanation.. supposed to be a tube screamer type boost that doesn't kill your lows..

I get the idea that a boost is to tighten the tone by pulling SOME bass, I just don't want all of it gone. I want the option to get that Metallica chunk without pulling all the body from the gain structure.

Thanks for the suggestions, need to try a green rhino sometime.

It is abnormal for a rectifier to not have enough bass when boosted with a tubescreamer. With a TS on, I find 1-2 oclock to bring in plenty of low end.

what he said, the tightening is from the bass being trimmed off...

mod your ts for less roll off, its one capacitor and like 5 minutes.

Left side (blue channel) of this pedal was the best boost I ever used on my recto. Did the tube screamer thing but without the metallic "clink" and three band eq can be dialed in add the lows back in or do the mid hump if you want.

I like the new OD808x(the red one) better. Chill out on the tone and level. The 808x + Mesa 5 band eq in the loop will get you there.
