"Red Devil" Concept Artwork

What do you think about my concept artwork so far for a '77 MXR Dyna Comp clone? I made it using the free GIMP program. I'm just brainstorming ideas now for the look and feel. Next I will come up with a sexy devil girl graphic that I can fit across the middle of the top panel etch. Might have to get my wife to pose for some inspiration

I'm only making one of these for myself. When I get something physical build I'll post about it after verifying it works. Here is a prototype preview of the custom PCB layout I made with ExpressPCB. In 'theory' it should work - I hope! No biggie either way, I'm just having fun with it.

I prefer the 9V adapter input to be on top, it makes for much easier pedalboard wiring.

I originally wanted the DC jack at the top too but the PCB is in the way because of how it is mounted with the pots attached. Plus on this compressor I have to go with vertical standing resistors because there are so many parts on a rather small PCB size.

I'd avoid the "trucker girl" artwork. In fact forget about it right now!!! Your original idea looks classy and streamlined.

Since you have stated that you cannot move the 9V pwr, I will give you one last suggestion then. The "In and Out" jack text, need to be flipped, horizontally (inverted). Since the 2 jacks will be on top, the lettering needs to be labeled as so, with the "in" adjusted accordingly.

Yeah, personally I don't like the trucker girl style because you see them all the time on tractor trailer mud flaps. I'm experimenting with different ideas. Maybe I should use something more evil looking without sexing it up.

Pedals are a lot unlike the majority of "gear". I think with pedals, sometimes simple is better. If you look at the majority of the soughtafter pedals right now, most of them started off with a simple idea and a well executed plan. If your pedal is good, and it sounds good, and it helps people make music..that's all that matters...and it will sell.

Do you mean having the jack text facing inward vs outward? I've seen pedal companies do it both ways, but usually you are reading the text looking from the side of the jack opening.

I'm gonna scrap the sexy woman graphic and go the Ferrari theme. I also think it gives it more of a Dyna-mic quality and it is a Dyna Comp clone after all

I also like the second devil chick. It doesn't look like a mudflap girl like the first one. The Ferrari Horse is cool too.

But honestly, I think the original version you posted up is the best, but I would change the led from red to white. That would classy as hell!

As far as the horse logo and 'red devil' both are Ferrari related. Their cars are commonly refered to as Red Devils.

But I was thinking after showing this to some friends tonight they brought up concerns about using the Ferrari font and horse logo might not be legal since is is associated with that company brand. I'm not even sure if I can use it for myself. To play it safe maybe I should use a different free use font and graphic. I'd still like to keep calling it Red Devil after the Yngwie song. Maybe I'll use the Deutsch Gothic font instead like my other clone. Even some of the cool sexy girl clip art requires a license fee to use them!

Don't use the Ferrari font either. Keep it clean and make sure the circut is the best.

Another thought I had was to rename it to 'Red Dragon' and have a dragon head graphic using the LED as its eye?

that looks cool but your original RED DEVIL COMPRESSOR text was written much better
keep that as it was

Here I am back to the horse graphic but not using the actual Ferrari horse logo. The font lettering is okay as long as it doesn't say Ferrari. I'm checking out different versions of horse clipart to see what looks best. This way it can have a Ferrari fan tribute theme to the look without infringing on the Ferrari brand or product.
