The 50w Magica has landed. I paid my last $800 of the $2800 price. I got $200 off for supplying my own tubes (yeah, that's how much five 12AX7 and two EL34 current production tubes cost now).

I wound up with a mix of NOS Mullard, Sylvania, and Amperex Bugle Boys in the preamp sockets, and two Siemens EL34 (NOS matched) in the power tube sockets. The amp is, IMO, warmer with the NOS glass (big surprise, right?).

I have 7 recones to do, plus 12 speaker orders to build, plus the usual packing & shipping. That means I won't be able do the whole "holy fuck!" honeymoon review until later...but keep in mind, I played this amp through a V30 in 2017 so I knew what I was getting already. It just got better with NOS glass and an M55/M75 65w Scumback loaded 212 closed back cab (8 ohms, 130w power handling).

There are more switches than I'm used to, but I look forward to trying them out. It's scary how good this thing sounds at mouse fart volumes, though.

Jim

Congratulations Jim?
Sounds like you’re gonna love it.

Congrats! Sounds like a killer amp. Yeah, glass is silly expensive these days. I just went through my EL34 collection and measured/matched up pairs/quads. 3 matched quads of Siemens, plus 4 pairs that are close. 6 matched Mullards(vintage), and 2 matched quads of Cs. Plus a bunch of GT LS that I have to work on. Pre tubes I’m set for life. 3 Sylvania 6ca7 that are matched as well. Need a 4th lol

Let us know how it hits Jim, congrats my brother!!!

Congrats! I have to try one of these amps, I have heard a lot of good things about them.

I knew it hit the first time I played it five years ago. It even sounded good with a V30 (for a combo). But the M55/M75 212 straight closed back is kicking...hard. When Keith brought his demo amp up to take my deposit last August or September, this is what I pulled out. He heard about 3 seconds and said "Ok, that's new...what the hell is in that cab?"

A client showed up yesterday to drop off 7 old G12M frames to be reconed, and I fixed his loose spider on his original 003 Pulsonic cone. We took a spin on the Magica for 2-3 hours after lunch...the poor guy now has to call Jim Wagner pickups after hearing my Fool SG (American Steele) and Keebler (Darkburst). He got to play my other replica with the real PAF's and decided Jim's pickups were plenty good enough.

Oh, and he's got some 412 cabs that won't be empty for long now, either.

My fingers are sore. I haven't played that much in years!

I promise to get to the back panel switches/knobs, etc this weekend. Today I'm waiting on 400 J & H frames to show up.

Wagner pups will do that! I love the Iron Man; in 2 of my guitars now.
Congrats on the amp! Heard great things.

Congratulations, love to hear some clips
I'll see what I can do. Right now I'm looking at ruts on my left hand fingertips, and I appear to have worn off a layer of skin on my thumb from the Herco heavy pick I was using.

Now you know how long it's been since I seriously picked up one of my guitars...damned embarrassing!

Congratulations Jim. Sounds very good.

You already know what you are getting, then you are going to enjoy it.
Very impressive.

Congratulations Jim! Always loved redplates stuff, ESP the Magicka
