how about a third option of indifferent?

doesn't matter to me as long as it plays well, and sounds good.

I do however think it's pretty fucked to pay someone to do something I can do with a few years of playing one myself. :lol: :LOL:
 
Yeah, I don't get the Relic thing. I know it's supposed to be cool and give the guitar the "played" mojo. To me, it's not any kind of real mojo...just BS. :lol: :LOL:
 
They look way cool but never worth the money how is that?
I LOVE old looking guitars but paying another grand for that is... I dunno... Guess if you have the money...
 
I think relics are kind of neat. I'm astonished at the prices for them though. I think it's ridiculous to spend twice as much for that feature.
 
I voted "gay total waste of money". I view guitar relicing in the same vein as buying pants with holes already torn in them.

oh, and they do play better then most "regular" strats. The necks feel amazing with the finish removed and clear-coated with nitro...
 
I voted "gay" because I prefer a guitar that has been beat up for real instead of pained to look that way.
 
I gues the one good thing is that you can beat the shit out of it and it will always be "mint" if you are a guitar flipper and have over $2000 tied up in it.

The cost is in line with most custom shops, maybe a few hundred more but not thousands like some relics.

I like them, but the Charvel in the link above missed one major relic point. The fine tuning pegs on the floyd bridge. A guitar well played ALWAYS has the black worn off (showing the brass)... I cant believe the custom shop missed such a simple thing.

The EVH $25,000 has a brand new looking trem on it and the Andy Summers Tele has brand new looking binding on it even when they took a belt sander to the body by the binding for that "worn player look" :lol: :LOL:
 
Relic guitars are like chicks with plastic surgery. A little bit might work ok, but go too far and it looks like an abomination! Besides, everyone prefers natural - would you rather have a guitar that is beat up because you played the piss out of it (chick with real cans), or one that was done up at a shop (the DD implants)????
 
To me, appearance-wise, it's no different than a different color of paint. So it's no gayer than buying a blue guitar, or a guitar with gold hardware or whatever. The only difference being there are feel aspects at play too. But appearance-wise, you're not really fooling anybody. And I doubt that most people buying relics are trying to fool anybody into thinking that they're playing a real vintage guitar. I don't know about you guys, but when I see a beat Fender now, my first thought is that it's probably a Relic. So it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Especially considering that Fender Relics are for the most part real good guitars. Put it this way, it bothers me way less than fat white guys in bowling shirts or SRV hats playing blues.
 
I voted gay. Though some old guitars look cool cause you know someone from a long time ago played the crap ut of them, I can't see paying the kind of money for someting new that I can do with some good old sandpaper and a file. You want to add rust, take all the metal parts off the guitar put em in some water for a few days and rinse. Want to add cracks bake your guitar body in the oven for a few days. Cigarette burns easy. :rock:
