i wanna stay away from ceramic I think, I never liked any ceramic pickups i've tried in the past.. Thanks for the idea though..

These tone zones are in the So Cal Charvel models, FWIW... anyone on here use tone zones in strats and like them?

The new SD 59/Custom looks like a contender for my HSS...

I have JB's in both my MIA and MIM HSS strats and think they sound great and cover a wide tonal range. FWIW I play mostly 80's and 90's hard rock.

I have a HSS strat and will probably swap out the bridge bucker as well. The stock pup is called an Atomic, don't know much about it.

I keep hearing about how well the Aldrich splits, but what about the Duncan Custom Custom or Custom 5?

thanks for the advice, I guess if I can't find a better choice, I'll throw a JB in it. My singer has one in his schecter and it sounds too generic. Maybe it's because its mahogany, idk.

thanks for the advice, custom custom seems interesting. I will check into it more...

I went to a local music store to test out a Charvel So-cal strat that comes with the TZ in the bridge to see if I like it but I ended up playing a $25k Fender EVH Frankenstrat they had hanging on the wall instead... haha, I will have to go back and try the so-cal and see if I like the TZ. I wonder if any guitars come with the Custom Custom in it stock to compare..?

EDIT: custom custom is listed to be really bright.. Leads me to believe it may be too bright for my ash strat

We can probably talk about this pickup is better than that one, this one sounds good in this guitar but not that one, this pickup sounds better for this style of music than that one......and so on, and I'm sure in many cases a valid point can be made. With that said, the JB has stood the test of time. The only other pickups that I would like to have tried in my strats are the BK Black Dog and the Suhr Aldrich, but I went with the JB still holds its own pretty well.

Motor City Pickups (MCP) Angel Dust (A5 or A2) rocks!!!!

I've not tried the Angel Dust, but have an Afwayu set in my Hamer, and a Detroiter set in my LP and really like both! Afwayu's are hotter and have a lot of low end. They are great for a modern metal tone!

Mine is a mid 2000's model HSS with maple neck. I prefer the maple necks. Everything is stock except the bridge pickup. I believe the body is ash as the deluxe models are alder.

tone zones are not bad...you can lower them for a more mellow feel.

i play with pickup/string height ratio a lot....still figuring it out with my suhr aldrich pickup, but, man, if you can get one for 80 or so, jump on it....i fucking LOVE that pickup....i know i know...i keep saying it!

mine is a 2003 and correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure only the strats with the finish "sienna sunburst" used ash for the body..?

The Angel Dust is badass!!! I tried the Luxxtone Copper El Mechete when I was at Tone Merchants and it rocked through all three amps that I tried!! (Friednan Steve Stevens Protype, Friedman BE/HBE and the Cameron Atomica). I ordered an Angel Dust bridge/2nd Degree Black Belt neck for my Carvin Alder guitar that currently has the underwound Afwayu's, which still has too much low end for me. I had the Detroiter in one my guitars and it rocked but did not work out on the low end sound with this particular guitar. Old Kramer Baretta that has a weird low end sound. Damn angled pickup design!!! I did not regret selling it until I picked up a Charvel Mahogany bodied guitar and would love to have the Detroiter!!! Maybe my Charvel guitar will do well with the Nasty Nasty!!!

I'd like to try the new Duncan '59/Custom hybrid, otherwise I'd say go for an Anderson H2+.

Have you considered the Andy Timmons bridge pickup? To my ears it is similar to the JB but with even more Harmonic content.

Dimarzio 36th anniversary. I'm using it the same application and it sounds good.

I've had a homemade Hybrid in my strat for about a year and 1/2...LOVE it.

I stand corrected. Mine is a 2004-2005 model (Butterscotch Blonde) which is Alder.
