Getting my ruby el34bht quad tomorrow and a tung sol 12ax7 for V1.

Called charly from bogner and he recommended biasing them to 32ma.

Will update this post with my impressions, it has JJ EL34 quad in there
right now that came stock with the amp a year ago.

Daniel.

I bet you'll like the Rubies a lot more. The JJ EL34s are pretty muddy. Also, keep an eye on the Tungsol... I had them in my Ubers for awhile but they burned out pretty quickly.

So eventually the tube with the broken guide pin got glued and fixed,
fortunately it was broken in a way that it was pretty clear in which position the guide pin was originally.

It's VERY Important for me to note before I'm getting to review the tubes:

I called doug(from doug's tubes, where I got this quad) for assistance, trying to understand if I'm having a serious problem here, and he was completely unpatient, acting like I'm bothering him and at a certain point he told me that he can't understand the problem and asked me to mail him photos and that he'll respond after a hour - dude, I'm calling from Israel, that costs a shit load of money, and I'm in the middle of biasing a 2.5K amp with tubes I bought from you and waited 3 weeks to arrive - couldn't the guy be abit more bhelpfuul analyzing with me the problem insteade of asking 2 questions and then shutting me down?

I posted here and decided to call laura from valve queen meanwhile since I 've contacted her in mail before and she seemed super nice and responsive and Ikinda needed anyone that could give me an answer at the moment.

She asked me to tell her step by step what did I do, asked me to describe what exactly happened, and she was really patient and supportive, and I didn't buy anything from her,
she also didn't know from where I've bought the tubes till the end of the conversation - to anyone thinking she was trying to represent a better image than doug's.

I'll never buy from doug again, he was acting impatiently when I asked him about tube\bias advise and shipping prices too - he did supply the stuff I bought and shipped it fairly quick, but as far as customer service - I'm deeply sorry, but he's a douchebag.

As for the tubes:

They're awesom!! As expected, they're a major bimprovement from the stock JJ's,
alot more tighter, well more balanced, could add alot more presence\treble without the amp sounding harsh, they also retain defenition in the highs and the lows very well, cant wait to try tyhem in our next reharsel.

I also ordered a Tung Sol for V1 and felt another improvement in defenition and attack,
I'm really happy with the way this retube turned out, it did everything I wanted it to do for the amp.

Daniel.

Glad it all worked out!

Nice man, glad you got it figured out! Enjoy the awesome combination of a Twin Jet and decent EL34s!

Update: Got to play through it more through my 1X12 orange cab and I really like it,
tight and clear sounding tube, still has the el34 mids, very nice and the tung sol helps to the clarity I feel.

But, and it's a big sad but, all nthe reharsel rooms in the area have only marshall cabs loaded with T75's,
I just couldn't find a way to make this amp sound good through this cab, kinda thought the tubes would help alot, they did help, not enough though, still too much base and boomy sounding, clarity isn't enough satisfying.

Put a JJ ECC803S in V4 position and it's a real improvement in the clean channel, much more open. With theTung Sol RI in V1 and that ECC803S in V4 of my Uber is big and bold sounding.

Glad the tube changes went well. I have SED's in mine...having 34's in this amp, I've found I can run the gain pretty low @ 12:30 on Ch.1 and @ 10:30 on Ch.2. Plenty of gain, but more clarity and open...not overly saturated.
